Mother's Day

This is the story of a Mother and her two boys. Mother's Day begins with a sabered head in the backseat of Mother's car and a terrified young woman in the front. You see, Mother had generously offered to drive a young couple out of town. Car trouble ensued and Mother checked the hood. Without warning a machete slivered into view and cut the boyfriend's head clean off. Then next the girlfriend was raped and slugged, all while Mother watched in gratification. The whimpering girl begged for life but didn't get far. Mother finished her off. Time passes and Mother's boys spot a new trio of clients. Three young women on a camping trip in the New Jersey's Deep Barrens. The wise store clerk warned them of the Barrens, but honestly he came off as an old, tempered dickbag than a warning sign. As the two boys glare from behind a bush, the girls seem happy, recalling old memories. Like the time they gave Jackie's dickish boyfriend a fantastic scare on the baseball field while he was in the nude! Oh, classic BFF stories. The two boys agree that the girls have indeed overstayed and decide to bag em and take em back to Mother. Mother is wildly grateful and can't wait to open her presents. Immediately, she demands a show. The boys featuring special guest Jackie start the performance in the front yard. Mother is satisfied. Mother is pleased. What a night. Do me a favor and spare this film's sadistic existence. I'm saying this after turning it off halfway in. And I guess that one girl survives and escapes. I couldn't care less. It's a miserably disturbing poop I'd take enjoyment in flushing.

Mother's Day

A Bay of Blood: A Ranking of Slashers (1974 - 1990) (http://boxd.it/IoH8) #5 of Slasher September (https://boxd.it/1dTfc) Mother's Day opens with the oddest of opening shots; a heavy crowd of blank faces looking deep into the boom operator's soul. It doesn't help that one of the faces in the crowd is a dirty killer—except you wouldn't really notice, because this hidden beast is surprisingly an old woman. As shocking as the film makes it to be, the humorous touch that captivates the mother and her two boys is genuinely frightening, but evoked in such a sad and joyless manner. While the kill count is incredibly short and the chases and suffering of its protagonists are considerably long, this 1980 slasher from Troma Entertainment is a lingering ninety minutes of vile depression. Its Ratpack reunion leads to an awful weekend for the three girlfriends, who are presented suitably as best friends with stories from college and beyond in the first act—everything is with a cheerful tone and for a moment, there is no sign of trouble for these girls. The whole thing turns to shit when they expose their chests and heighten the excitement of mother's boys watching from a distance; setting them off on a sadistic kidnapping and torture back at mother's. From then on out its an exploited churn of sadism and disgust with no fun whatsoever. I tried to like it, but it was all too perverse and utterly boring. 1.2/5
