Working Girl

“I'm not gonna spend the rest of my life working my ass off and getting nowhere just because I followed rules that I had nothing to do with setting up.” Some call her Tess, but I call her mother. What an absolute delightthis was. Admittedly I came for the Harrison Ford shirtless scenes but very quickly I became invested in this ambitious woman’s grasp for what she’s owed. It’s very relatable, no? Knowing you’re deserving of something and seeing others get what should be yours. But unlike most people, Tess does the smart, albeit risky, thing and she goes for it. And who can blame her really, the rent was due. Every time she succeeded I just wanted to cheer and that’s largely in part to how empathetic and charismatic Melanie Griffith played the character. She was just so stunning, and so lovely. Words don’t do her performance justice! Glad to find out she won some awards for this because it was so deserved.
