Diary entries forGerald's Game
Gerald's Game
“you’re so much smaller than i remember” now this is a horror movie holy shit i have nothing else to say but i hate men and i hope they all die
Gerald's Game
Might be one of the best modern King adaptations available, and certainly feels like the most human one. The final five minutes might feel sudden, random, even disappointing; just don't call it unearned. The first sixty minutes of the film seems like neverending trauma that Carla Gugino masterfully endures, carrying the film almost entirely without ever leaving a bed. Seeing her walk her way to her own happy (or at least happier) ending after it all felt like more of a "fuck yeah!" fist-pumping moment than you'd find in any of the three hours of Avengers Endgame

that scene with the hand nsksksksks i had to turn away it was so sickening
Gerald's Game
2017 seems to have been chock full of Stephen King adaptations. The television series The Mist, The Dark Tower, IT, Gerald's Game, and 1922 all are being released this year, which is a great year for the horror author. Having seen a couple of these adaptations, it's not a surprise that I venture over to yet another one. Gerald's Game is one of the rare King novels that I actually haven't read yet, as I've read nearly all of his novels. This was a surprise of a film, as I really wasn't sure what I was going to get into. But Gerald's Game really is an entertaining film, throwing in King's typical scares, while still maintaining the internal drama that was going on throughout. This really is how you adapt a Stephen King novel, showing the characters being human, having problems, all the while putting in those horrifying moments that make King so well known. This film is the best King adaptation yet this year, very much beating out the box office smash IT. Gerald's Game is a novel I desperately need to read now, so then I can revisit this film and see how close the film is to the source material.

Gerald's Game
The Year is 2017: Ranked and Reviewed (https://boxd.it/1aqJG) The first of presumably many Stephen King fictions getting the Netflix treatment, this constraining piece of suspense and thriller is a well exceptional commencement and adaptation of the novel of the same name. Mike Flanagan directs a character drama that interlocks with moments of horror and trauma, all the while compelling viewers with the psychological stress and imagination from its protagonist. Gerald's Game is essentially Misery with less tension and more character driven clarity—Carla Gugino exploits the repressed burden of a disturbing past that helps her survive the harrowing situation she faces in the film. The premise isn't great—in fact, it's too simple—and it can very much feel all too stretched out at certain moments, despite the suspense that takes off occasionally. When the cracks open and the general idea of a woman coming to terms with forgotten trauma is revealed, the film becomes more engaging and more important. There's creepy images and nice gore (specifically one sickening shift in bloodshed), and then there is the symbolic and serious tone of utter realism that takes the cake. 3.5/5
Gerald's Game
not the damn killer making fun of her bffr
Gerald's Game
Her trying not to fall asleep throughout the movie? Relate. Waited it out to see how it was going to solve the big problem and it wasn't very creative/impressive. The plot twist at the end felt random, answering a question nobody asked. It only serves to have that last line delivered, doesn't change the story that came before. To her he was a real threat to her life and turns out he was a real threat. I guess Riley Sager took more inspiration from Stephen King's work, he did a similar twist with a character but made it better.
Gerald's Game
first movie i have watched with a new friend of mine! i watched it a couple of years ago already and thought it was a little better back then. i wish they would have focused a lot more on the present time and not so much on the flashbacks with what happened during that eclipse.. it felt kind of dragged out. loved the concept though!
