Beauty and the Beast
Disney's latest live action adaptation of a classic tale shimmers and shines, but is missing the warmth that the original film had. Emma Watson is a great pick to play Belle, she has the voice and has the look of Belle. Dan Stevens even was a great choice to play the Beast, even though he doesn't quite looks it when he transforms back into a human. The supporting cast is great, with Emma Thompson shining the most. The songs were fun, the sets were gorgeous, but the film really was missing the warmth that the first film had. It seems to be primarily because of Gaston and Le Fou, where they become much darker and less fun to watch than the original. With Disney's first "openly gay" character and a scene that does absolutely nothing to further Le Fou's character, it seems more like a slap in the face to the LGBTQ+ community to hype up a character's sexuality and have it simply be him dancing with another man. That was the biggest letdown of the entire film, which did make the ending less enjoyable. Nonetheless, Beauty and the Beast is a great adaptation that does a good job at staying true to the original material, while managing to really bring the fantasy world back to life.

An almost shot for shot remake of the original animated classic with barely anything new added. Emma Watson’s singing voice is auto-tuned, which signals to me that she can’t actually sing, the chemistry between Belle and the beast in this adaptation is nonexistent, and the visual effects and cinematography look as dull as dishwater. If there is anything I liked, I enjoyed the Gaston sequence and Josh Gad as Lèfou.

Oh gods why was there sooo much autotune on Emma Watson’s voice??? In all the interviews I’ve seen, apparently she’d had a lot of singing lessons and sounded really good… but they had to ruin it with autotune overkill. Other than that, pretty decent live-action film in this day and age.
