Probably on the lower end of Carrey stuff but it’s still fun. Apparently the second one is better so I definitely want to watch that soon. 6.5/10

Netflix & Chill #10 ACE VENTURA: PET DETECTIVE (1994) dir. Tom Shadyac Hyperbolically manic and teetering on obnoxiousness, this Ace Ventura: Pet DetectiveisJim Carrey’sstar-making film. For better or worse, this cheeseball comedy solidified the brand of humor we have come to love from him. There’s a lot of good laughs to be had in this film, especially early on in the film. The way Ace carries himself through a normal day is hilariously eccentric, but equal parts insane. I believe the first of half of the film is the strongest with the later half slowly, but surely, losing its sharpness. There are several jokes that have not...aged well — it was during a time where a man kissing another man was considered the joke of the scene. Yeah. This is a fun, dumb slapstick comedy carried entirely on the shoulders of Jim Carrey, because let’s be honest no one is going to do better than he is.
