Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines

Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines

Honestly, this sequel is a mixed bag. On one hand, John Connor was turned into such a pussy, it’s astounding. And Claire Danes’ character was no better, and the T-X was basically an inferior version of the T-1000 from T2. But on the other hand, it’s got some nice visual effects, and the CGI is very good for early 2000s standards. And it’s got a satisfying ending.

Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines

“You are terminated.” I have no idea what possessed me to watch RISE OF THE MACHINESother than the fact I hadn’t seen it in years…and I’m beginning to see why I hadn’t. A pointless edition to the saga, just like everything else that came after Judgement Day. Whole flick feels like an unexpected, unwanted, layover between T2 and Salvation. To be clear Salvationisn’t good but is the direction the franchise should have gone—to the future and the wars fought there. T3 feels incredibly pointless, retreading the ideas that Cameron established in the previous films but far more clumsily. Sure, I guess the point is “ha! you didn’t stop judgement day. our future is inevitable and we need to accept that instead of running from it.” but the execution is so goddamn boring. The Sarah Connor Chronicles uses this same idea—that John’s fate is inevitable, retcon’ing this film in many ways but in my opinion, it is much more successful. Anyway I’ve written too much about this. Not a good movie, no matter what the 00s cinephile revisionists online tell you. Hold firm.
