Haunting flick and luminously, brilliantly filmed! Just a tasty treat for photographers, really, every minute of it. York really sells the reckoning of the breakdown, while the whole of it pulls the rug out from what I'd come to expect from Altman. And seeing primetime Auberjonois in anything is a cherry on the tops.

With twist after twist, Images is a film that never gets old, constantly staying interesting the entire time. Some stunning work behind the camera, as well as with the score, pushing the film along to a truly unforgettable conclusion. Robert Altman has had some impressive films so far, and Images definitely stands among Nashville and Gosford Park. I’m consistently impressed with Altman’s filmography, and will have to delve into his work even more.

A deliberately mystifying film in every sense, blurring the line between what's real and what is only in the head of its schizophrenic lead. Susannah York stars in Robert Altman's Images, a film she has stated to be her most proudest work. Her performance is startling and stirring and very very impressive, she really is the thing that holds the film together. Outside of her performance, it is difficult to care about the story since things are so blurred and increasingly repetitive. What could have been a moving short film is unfortunately stretched out with a lot of ups and downs along the way.
