The Final Girls

It’s very obviously just Friday the 13th (literally down to the sound that plays when Jason/Billy is near) but it also makes fun of other slashers from this era which is awesome.  Tons of funny gags and surprisingly emotional story, would definitely revisit this next year!  8.5/10

The Final Girls

#3 of 31 Days of Madness: October 2018 (https://boxd.it/25v8a) A satirical slasher with a lot of heart, The Final Girls does a lot right for a homage/parody as blatant as this. Through stylish endeavors within its cinematography, as well as a pretty great cast, the film manages to serve both laughs and a lot of unforeseen emotion — but, maybe too much. You could say its too heavy on the heartstrings, but, it feels needed for its lead protagonist's arc. Gotta say, Adam Devine is a king at his kind of comedy — the funniest in the cast, despite his lack of presence later on in the film. Of course the premise is the best part about the film (Taissa Farmiga's character is swept into the 1980 movie Camp Bloodbath, a slasher that starred her now dead mother), and thankfully it mostly delivers on how enjoying it can be to watch something as absurd as that, despite a few hiccups along the way. 3.6/5

The Final Girls

"They won't be singing Kumbaya... they'll be screaming Kumba-no! Pack your bags for Camp Bloodbath where the only marshmallow that will roast is your sanity." Opens with an Honest Trailers type video for the slasher movie within this movie, and honestly how can you not like it after that?! I love how it embraces the campiness to full extent yet has a heart à la Happy Death Day 2 U. The first 30 minutes or so are amazing, the middle is kinda lackluster, but the finale really picks up. The flashback thing is interesting. Also, being chased in slow motion seems like a nightmare. Speaking of which Hollywood please parody/spoof A Nightmare on Elm Street; y'all keep making me wish I liked Friday the 13th with how much its referenced.
