Kidnap

It's hard to watch Kidnap and not be reminded of Berry's other film The Call. Both have extremely similar premises, yet are executed in different ways that make both films entertaining, Kidnap being the less entertaining of the two. There's not much that you can do that is different and unique when it comes to child kidnappings, since pretty much everything has been done before. But this film isn't entirely about the kidnapping, but rather a mother's struggle to protect her child, no matter what the cost. Berry's performance was the best part of the film, despite having a weaker script and some pretty bad direction. It's rare to actually see the editing in a film unless it's either amazing or terrible, with this film being the latter. There were many scenes that were laughably cut, making intense scenes feel more comedic than anything. The end of the film felt extremely rushed, despite the rest of the film taking its time to develop. The end of the film was an ending that could have been called right from the beginning, since, as stated, this is a child kidnapping film and everything has been pretty much done before. While this film wasn't Berry's best film, it certainly wasn't a terrible film, where I am actually going to go and watch this film again in a couple of weeks in theaters when it is properly released. Kidnap is nowhere near a revolutionary film, but still is a film that is entertaining and worth watching for a quick and suspenseful film.
