The Brood

I remember hearing about The Brood years ago. I remember some kids at school talking about this weird movie they had seen. I'm not exactly sure why they were watching this film in the 5th grade, but I recall them not liking it. Now, 7 years later, I've finally had the chance to see The Brood and I loved it. This is the third Cronenberg film that I've seen. His two others I've seen, Videodrome and Naked Lunch seemed to be really similar, with sex and violence being the prominent aspects of the film. In this film, violence and sex are there, but sex doesn't seem to be the driving force of the film. The violence done by the brood seem to be the main focus of the film, as well as what happens after a divorce. I thought The Brood was going to be some fast paced thriller. There were many points in the film that were really fast paced, but it moved much slower than I imagined. With the slow pacing, you really were able to get a better feel for the film, getting to be more personal with the characters. Cronenberg has a style that's really unique, and you can see the starts of it in this film. The Brood was just what I was in the mood for. I've been blown away from the films that I've seen done by Cronenberg, and I can't wait to watch his other films. An interesting thing I noticed about this film was that it felt like I was watching Dario Argento's early films, as well as The Omen. This was such an interesting combination that seems to work perfectly for this film.

The Brood

There could’ve been some stuff cut out even though it’s already pretty short, but other than that it was good.  Really loved the effects, the last few minutes were sick.  7/10

The Brood

March Madness #4 (https://boxd.it/Sgfq8) Cronenberg's "The Brood" is an excellent film about generational trauma and the dehumanization of children in favor of the aims of the parent. it is haunting, violent and quite personal in its feeling. I love the brood as an idea. these are children whose fleeting lives are spent in complete devotion and service to their parent. They are completely without voice and personality, existing simply as tools for their mother to use in her own quest of anger and revenge. From the perspective of the children this can be a film about how it can feel to have parents that refuse to see you as your own person and instead view you as an accessory to their lives. from another perspective this film can also be about how parents who haven't dealt with the trauma and abuse they received from their own parents end up passing on said trauma and abuse to their children, continuing the cycle. Thirdly, i think this film can be read a great work about the importance of our relationships. how they form us, sustain us and unfortunately, destroy us. in other words, this is a really good movie and i think it has a lot to say. I'm sure that this is something I'll be thinking about for a long time, especially that birth scene towards the end, jesus man that was intense

The Brood

Criterion Channel Surfing #13 THE BROOD (1979) dir. David Cronenberg I seem to catch myself saying on a regular basis “You know what? This film would’ve been a good Cronenberg film” for many of the brain dead modern horror movies we seem to be exposed to nowadays. He’s the type of director to shock you, disgust you, and make you feel sympathetic - not very easy to achieve when you spend most of his films watching horrifying body horror. To say I’m a fan would be an understatement, which is why it bums me out this is one of the films from him I really did not enjoy. It’s an interesting premise, but it sure likes to take its time getting to the point. I felt aimless trying to follow the plot along and once we did get to the finale I was left with more questions than answers, which isn’t unto itself a bad thing - just that the film felt very...lost. If you’re going into Cronenberg for the first time, I’d say to go ahead and skip this one. The Fly, Maps to the Stars, The Dead Zone, Videodrome, Scanners, and Eastern Promises are all fantastic works to jump into.

The Brood

Wow. Trauma. How it grows and bleeds through in future generations. How it's carried. How it plagues. How it chases and hurts others. All embodied here. The classroom scene! Absolutely nuts.

The Brood

Custody battles am i right!?🗣️ I kinda feel like a tiny grotesque physical manifestation of my mother's rage when i argue with my extended family tbh The ending was so freaky (in a good way) the shot of her lifting her shirt to show her stomach was chef's kiss

The Brood

I liked it but didnt love it.  I am a fan of his work so far.  I seen the fly, videodorme, shivers, and now this.  This might be the least favorite atp.  With that being said, its not a waste of time nor its bad.  The final act is crazy very well made.  For me, the buildup- middle of the movie felt dragging.  Overall, its fine.
