An American in Paris

i'll be honest i didn't care much about the storyline but i still really enjoyed the movie. i love a technicolor film with beautiful sets and costumes. i usually hate musicals, but i liked the musical numbers in this one, gene kelly is such a talented dancer and actor.

An American in Paris

Fantastic cinematography, amazing sequences and a mediocre to poor plot make for quite a middling film. Sure, there’s lots to love, but I’d be lying if I didn’t say the first hour was very boring. Also, the piano guy they introduced at the start did absolutely nothing for the entire film and felt like a complete waste of time whenever he was on the screen. However, the dancing in this is absolutely fantastic, so if you like that you’ll love this.

Graph with one line labeled "Interest In Narrative", another line labeled "Interest In Production". First one plummets over time, second one shoots up, they pass through each other and keep on trendin'. Ezzie is right on (https://letterboxd.com/insomniacghosty/film/an-american-in-paris/) about the ending.

COMEDYx52(024) (https://letterboxd.com/allbeef/list/comedyx52024/) #52 of 52 | Watch a comedy film that has won Best Picture (https://letterboxd.com/jake_ziegler/list/academy-award-winners-for-best-picture/genre/comedy/). Definitely one of the slightly better musicals out there. Still not a huge fan though.

An American in Paris

“Brother, if you can't paint in Paris, you better give up and marry the boss's daughter.” Look...the choreography was nice (I mean, it's Gene Kelly ffs), the cinematography is beautiful, the music was lovely, and the color (bring back Technicolor!) is just wowza. But do I like the film in general? Not so much. I guess it doesn't really appeal to me as Singin' in the Rain (https://boxd.it/29oY) did, but I can clearly see why this is an aesthetically-pleasing film and one of the most beloved old Hollywood musicals out there. The dancing sequence by the end was lovely though, as well as just Gene Kelly's tap dancing (and tight ass pants collection) throughout the film.

An American in Paris

Always saw this title at the public library. From when I would visit the one in Orange County to Los Angeles to San Francisco and even in Aix En Provence. Just the singular idea of the phrase brought a splendor to me that I could never shake off because I could call that title my own narrative. I made sure not to miss the opportunity with my flight from Vancouver to Incheon, but sheesh, not sure if I'd like to romanticize a douchy Gene Kelly. Come on, Gene. "No" means "NO!" What I will talk about is that dance finale. The set designs! The moves! The tremendous amount of liveliness here. The fountain with outstretched plastic tubes, flowers pluming out of them, the colors, full of passion and the passion of Kelly's career! I was also a big fan of the opening sequence in which Kelly operates within his little studio apartment, moving things in, pushing things back, adjusting what is the miniaturization of his life that magnifies with the search of love, capturing it, and never letting go.
