Após a morte de uma garota de 16 anos de nome Alice no Lago Mungo, a família dessa garota passa a testemunhar eventos sobrenaturais e todos os indícios em torno dessa fatalidade levam eles a um lugar: o Lago Mungo. O gênero terror é uma ferramenta muitas vezes usada para discutir assuntos de teor mais pesados ou não muito comentados na nossa sociedade atual. E isso varia de vários assuntos e temas. Lake Mungo pega esse conceito e explora não só uma história de um falso documentário sobre fantasmas, mas como uma família que perdeu um membro valioso do seu âmbito, lida com essa perda e processa o luto. Percorrendo todos os estágios e inclusive investigando mais a fundo sobre a vida dessa pessoa que eles não conheciam tão bem assim. Fazendo paralelos com membros da família, como personalidade de uma figura materna reflete na personalidade de um ser humano e como isso faz outras pessoas repensarem seus modos de agir. Lake Mungo é muito hábil em criar um cenário de mistério e suspense, mas sem apelar pra sustos baratos, pq o propósito aqui não é esse. Esse filme explora os dramas de uma família de luto e os segredos dessa pessoa que, aparentemente era algo mais denso do que eles poderiam imaginar. Com isso em mente, Lake Mungo é um exemplar filme de terror que utiliza do seu gênero para contar uma história sobre fantasmas, mas além de tudo sobre relações familiares e luto. Filmaço.

Quite the mood piece. Wondering what form the "caught on camera" ghost story will take as the years pile on; at least, filtered through ever higher fidelity, ever expanding surveillance, and ever wider accessibility. The inadequacy of the tech has been a part of the mystique since, what, the 1800's? WHATEVER, it'll still be about folks reckoning with the event horizon of their lives. That good ol' real Mungo shit corroding the highest of high-definition inspections, whether we're considering the immortality of a Nokia device or beyond.

Oozing with dread from beginning to end, Lake Mungomanages to blend the supernatural horror and real horrors of loss, bringing out the phantoms that grief can bring out. Emotional, devastating, and utterly terrifying, Lake Mungomanages to create a scenario that is universal, which makes all of the scares seem even more real. I don’t think this would have worked as well as it did if they hadn’t done the “mockumentary” style, which lead to some captivating performances that suck you in and make you feel as if you are genuinely watching a documentary. For years I have heard about this film, so I’m glad that I finally ally can scratch this off of my list of must see films, and would implore anyone even considering watching this film to give it a watch - it is completely worth it.

great performances here. low on scare factor but theres a decent emotional core here. yeah i know the “horror movie about grief” thing can be overdone but it can be done well!

I believe Laura Palmer and Alice Palmer would be best friends!! Also the idea of seeing your own ghost months before dying is so horrifying.
