bumped a half star to 4. idk when i gave this a 3.5 but that’s low. this is a good movie and a fantastic origin. yes some of the movie is over expositional , nolan has a tendency to do this, and i think it being an origin amplified that tendency. my main issue with this is the fight scenes. they don’t seem to be choreographed well, and the many many cuts in the scenes are a bandaid to a injury that needs surgery. doesn’t kill the film though. i love the tone that is set here, and the introduction to each of the characters, all of whom stay consistent yet evolve thru their arc at the same time (not a credit to this film but just saying) batman appears like halfway thru, but that doesn’t feel annoying, it makes sense, and it’s right on time. the most endearing part of batman begins is the visual effect for scarecrows fear toxin. so cool, and it feels exactly like how id expect the pov to be as someone afflicted. i do also love the different way we see batman from the pov of scarecrows victims, whether it be when crane gets a taste of his own medicine and sees a disturbing, almost infected and melting batman, or when the citizens of gotham fall under the tainted air and see a red eyed winged creature flying overhead. batman and scarecrow both utilize fear, in different ways. every film perfectly highlights the similarities between batman and his villains, in a way that feels more specific and creative than just “this is the human condition and people think this way but live it out differently”
Batman Begins
Christian Bale is bath far the best Batman of all time and it’s not even close. He delivers a flawless performance in Batman Begins, as he does throughout the trilogy. This is dark, grimy and above all interesting, the story works so well and gets you so invested that you really care about the characters. The CGI is great for the time, the Batmobile is fantastic and the cast is perfect. A very solid start to the trilogy.
