On the Silver Globe

"𝘌𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘩 𝘪𝘴 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘐 𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘭 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘺𝘰𝘶." The end of earth is the end of dreams. It's to get to nightmares because there is nothing. No heaven. No hell. But nightmare. And of all great nightmares, there is purgatory. Nothingness. Empty beaches. Long cloaks. Existential screeching. "𝘏𝘰𝘸 𝘥𝘰𝘦𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘰𝘶𝘭 𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘣𝘰𝘥𝘺?" The camera becomes a body thrashed about on land, in sea, down deep through caves, the underbelly of pain and sorrow to only come up for air to make sense of our being. And yet, those breaths come rare in between the hiccups of violence and sex. We're not meant to understand anything, only to experience, to feel, to be. Actions and adjectives occur around us. And we must move through it all. "𝘏𝘰𝘱𝘦 𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘢𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘪𝘯 𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘻𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘮 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘰𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘧 𝘨𝘳𝘰𝘱𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘥𝘢𝘳𝘬." The ending is off-kilter, playful in this weird serious kind of way an artist must create agency in their work, to come in with agenda, to say something. Here, Żuławski only attempts to say something only to mean nothing. But it's in this nothingness that is enthralling. It's the tossing and turning, making sense of meaning, only to realize the body is a verb and life is an adjective. 🥮🥮🥮 If you enjoyed this write-up, please consider purchasing my novella here (https://nathansnook.bigcartel.com/). On the Silver Globe

people that have nothing grasp at religion searching for meaning. even on a different planet, in a different world, with new humanity, we fall back on the same systems. we cannot be fixed. war, religion, politics. nothing changes. we are inherently evil. or so zulawski argues. i’m inclined to agree with him. hysterical, nietzschean, unbelievable—this deserves so much more recognition and love as the pinnacle of science fiction. less concerned with space than most sci fi, and plays more like a greek tragedy. civilization rises and falls, messiahs come and go, but human nature is unchanging—no matter where they are.

On the Silver Globe

shows that no matter how far we go, we can’t escape our own destructive nature. we really haven’t come that far at all, we’re just stuck repeating the same cycle, chasing freedom, questioning why we exist, and hurting the very people around us this was great !! sucks that the polish government cut it short and stripped away so many of the ideas zulawski had for it

On the Silver Globe

i am in the prison of my own freedom well, that was a DEFINITELY a rollercoaster. i have NEVER seen absolutely anything like this film in my entire life. it’s actually crazy that the polish government were doing their all to shut this down, like, actually bizarre! the whole time it just felt like i couldn’t take my eyes off the screen. almost hypnotizing honestly. even during the explanation of scenes that weren’t able to be shot i still was glued to the screen. the cinematography of this film was also absolutely stunning. i’m happy i got the chance to see this cause i definitely would’ve never seen this on my own choice or time. this is definitely a classic man! now all i wanna do is go down a rabbit hole of everything about this film, the director, & why the polish government feared it so much.
