The BFG

I grew up reading many of Rohl Dahl's stories, so it's always nice to see one of his magical stories come to life on the big screen. The Big Friendly Giant or The BFG was one of my favorite stories growing up, a story that I read time and time again. When I heard that Steven Spielberg was doing an adaptation of the story, I was delighted to see a well done version of the film. Now that I've finished the film, I'm not sure exactly what I enjoyed about it. There were parts of the film that were really charming, but the film altogether just wasn't that enjoyable. The CGI felt really awkward at many times throughout, taking away the magical feel that it really should have had. For some reason, I just couldn't really get into this adaptation. It may be because this is one of my beloved childhood stories that I don't want to see have a bad adaptation of, but The BFG isn't exactly what I was hoping it would be.

I can’t say this was one of Spielberg’s bests lmao. I can’t say this was a good movie. It was very meh. Kind of just existed. A little unclear with what was going on with the dreams and acting was pretty sus by the lead. I get you are constrained when adapting a book, but maybe the book didn’t need adapting. 5.1
