To Sir, with Love
i wanted to like it but the crazy dated gender roles were a bit too rancid

To Sir, with Love
Sidney Poitier has a screen presence unlike any other and watching him is always a pleasure. This is touching enough, and that post credits scene leaves a warm feeling in me for sure. But I had to knock off half a star for Sir’s rant about his female students. I cringed hearing Poitier repeatedly shout about “sluts” and that took me out of his performance for that scene. I don’t believe Sir would go off on them in that particular manner, even if it was believable for him to snap at some point. Even with the time period and what was considered weirdly acceptable in societal language, it felt off for a man so humble and aware of the world around him to call them sluts and use that as a means to improve their classroom behavior.
