The Legend of Tarzan

Would say "Margot Robbie deserves better" but Suicide Squad came out that same year lol Would say "Alexander Skarsgard deserves better" but he did like a decade of True Blood before this lol Would say "David Yates deserves better" but he followed this shit up with Fantastic Beasts, soooooo maybe Harry Potter was just a fluke lol

The Legend of Tarzan

I very much enjoy the bulbous close-ups, but lose all interest the moment the virtual camera starts careening.

The Legend of Tarzan

Tarzan was one of my favorite films growing up. I loved the movie, cried many times watching it, and really grew to look up to Tarzan. When I heard that there was a remake coming out, I had my doubts, but I was hoping that it was going to capture the essence of the first film. Sadly, that wasn't what happened. I'm not entirely sure exactly what happened here. The film started off seeming to be a sequel, and kept switching timelines at very odd times. I'm not sure if this is supposed to be a sequel to any Tarzan films, or if it's a re-imagining of the story. The action of the movie really wasn't that good either. The climax of the film was supposed to be an epic fight, but really did nothing for me. It felt like they were trying to do something big with the ending, but nothing big really happened. The CGI at times was decent, but for the most part, was actually subpar to lots of CGI I've seen before. There were sequences that left me wondering if this was actually meant to be taken serious, due to the low quality CGI. Altogether, The Legend of Tarzan is one of this year's major disappiontments for me. I was hoping for something that kept the spirit of Disney's Tarzan at times, but there was nothing there. I was excited to see Margot Robbie, who seemed to be the best part of the film, and I honestly continued watching just because of her. The Legend of Tarzan is an odd film that really isn't worthwhile.

The Legend of Tarzan

predictable disappointment, terrible pacing, too much screentime dedicated to events that mattered little to none. the film could’ve done without most of the tarzan/jane flashbacks and instead focused more on their interactions in the beginning, when they were in london or even when they first landed in the congo. the climax was so poorly built up (tarzan basically running into the tribal leader by accident) and then rushed through to the max (the fight lasted what seemed like less than a minute). the last bit of the film was virtually a high-speed jumble of random events and cgi overload. if the ending was going to be thatrushed then i think a lot of the earlier scenes could’ve been shortened or deleted (the flashbacks, the elephants, the drawn-out fight with akut, etc). 80% of the film was more or less boring and then the ending kind of just explodes in your face. good parts: the cast, and that one slow-motion scene of tarzan swing-jumping onto jane.
