Nasceu pela vingança e morreu pela vingança. O tema da violência sexual sempre me abalou profundamente e por um tempo foi algo que fez me afastar de certas obras. No entanto, o fato de Yuki ser o fruto de um abuso e usada como o fantasma incorporado de sua mãe, trás um interesse estranho em continuar a assistir. É claramente uma das bases para o cinema ocidental de Quentin Tarantino, devido ao seu estilo de derramamento de sangue na tela. Como a história começa em um dia de neve com uma criança nascida pura, mas comissionada com suas primeiras respirações com o trabalho sangrento de vingança, então a cena final deixa a bela assassina com seu quimono borboleta coberto de sangue na neve se perguntando se há vida após a vingança.

67/100 Yuki what the fuck are you waiting for at the end you dumb bitch? You’d think she’d be more eager to get it over with after having waited for more than 20 years?! This was a borderline painful watch mainly because the direction is awful. The ideas were original and of course imitated and in my opinion, strongly improved upon by Quentin Tarantino. Initially I thought this man ripped off this shit and the story here was actually better and while I do think the story is more interesting here, it’s the constant need for twists and reveals that bored me. I really didn’t think we needed to know much about our villains post the initial appearance. The twist with the son at the end was pointless. And bar the appearance and slight intrigue of the final boss, the rest of the villains were quite pale and boring. Tarantino uses the style and the music but improves upon the action which is understandable and makes our characters intimidating and exciting. This film is definitely darker and there’s more at play here and like I said, if you are looking for a more complex but poorly paced viewing experience that for me was quite unsatisfactory, go ahead. I believe this is one of those films that is praised more so for its originality and influence rather than the actual work at display. Sure it’s 1973 but many great films had been made by then or at the time which had the continuity, climactic effort and a seamless audiovisual experience. This lacks on some fronts and albeit a very short film, fails to grasp you for the entirety of its runtime. People love shitting on Quentin so they prop anything that influenced him with similar ideas as a method of getting one up on him. I’m contemplating watching the second film but we’ll do it for the history. I must reiterate, there are elements of this movie I really liked but this is not a viewing experience I’d recommend.

JAPANUARY 2026 #12 SAMURAI FILM ______ hey this movie reminds me of something. alright yes i am aware this movie was a heavy heavy inspiration for kill bill. but we are here simply to judge this movie on its merits and for that…yeah i really liked it. it’s classic revenge fare but with undeniable style to it. the blood is incredibly red, and it’s incredibly cool visually with how it contrasts against the white snow in certain scenes.

An excellent story about the cyclical nature of revenge, the curse of generational trauma and the tragedy of giving your entire life and identity to a cause. Loved it

it's extremely apparent how much of an influence this must have had on tarantino when making kill bill (https://boxd.it/bWRCh1), but hopefully it's not heresy for me to say that i didn't enjoy this nearly as much as qt's rendition. the film isn't bad by any stretch of the imagination - for one, it's absolutely gorgeous at times: the saturation of the blood & the overall vibrancy of the colors are stunning, & some shots in particular are incredible, like when yuki goes to slice the fake gishiro's hands off & they go flying across the room. the soundtrack is also incredible. you really can't fault tarantino for straight up stealing meiko kaji's "the flower of carnage" bc the song is just that good. unfortunately, the film is just uneven. the first like forty minutes is just exposition - somewhat confusing exposition at that (though that could just be a skill issue) - so we don't really get going until the film is basically halfway through. once it does get going it's fine, but still nothing to write home about. ultimately i just wish i could have seen this prior to kill bill, as i feel i'd maybe be able to give a fairer assessment. subconsciously comparing every scene of this film to one i already love is a recipe for disaster, so i'm not surprised that lady snowblood didn't blow me away. oh btw definitely docking half a star for the naked child??? at least tarantino had the decency not to copy that 9/52 (https://boxd.it/Rfn6u)

— Pode-se dizer que o carma pode macular os não-nascidos. Sabe-se lá como acabei assistindo Lady Snowblood nesse final de sábado, nem lembro como fiquei sabendo desse filme. No entanto, aproveitei bastante a experiência porque existe algo muito bacana na forma que narrativas asiáticas falam sobre a vingança. É um tema recorrente e que, de certa maneira, estava enraizado na cultura por muito tempo. Além disso, o fundo histórico me deixou ainda mais interessada, por mais que seja usado mais para explicar os fatos passados. De toda maneira, foi bacana conhecer um pedacinho da história do Japão e como ele tem impacto na história. O que eu mais gostei foi, justamente, a maneira como a vingança é tratada como um destino ou uma missão que não aceita falhas. Existe quase uma aura de honra e respeitabilidade que envolve a personagem, principalmente quando se entende tudo que aconteceu para a vingança ser algo importante. Sem contar que ainda traz aquele questionamento de até que ponto é válido ir atrás disso, devotar a vida e fazer disso a única missão possível. Inclusive, gostei que o final abraçou isso completamente porque, por certo momento, me fez acreditar que dariam um final clichê e sem combinar com o resto da história. Ver o final de Yuki foi um fechamento importante e necessário, afinal, o que restaria para ela no momento em que a vingança terminasse? Ela nunca soube o que era viver, senão treinar para ser uma arma nas mãos do carma. Gostei também da maneira como a vingança se mostra um ciclo vicioso, que não tem fim e se torna um carma eterno envolvendo pessoas que sequer deveriam estar envolvidas ali. As cenas são bem feitas e ajudam a fazer com que a sanguinolência fique ainda mais clara, assim como sangue na neve. Meu único ponto negativo é a forma como usam a atriz mirim em um flashback, sem nenhum cuidado em mostrar uma atriz mirim nua. Essa é uma questão recorrente com filmes dos anos 70 e, principalmente, no Japão, que eu não consigo deixar passar. As cenas com carga sexual também são estranhas, porém têm o seu motivo na história. Gostei bastante da experiência, num geral, e é mais um ótimo filme japonês que inspirou muitos outros depois.
