Pretty much exactly what I was expecting before going into this. The character of John Wick is interesting as Reeves is fantastic in this role. The all black suit is drippy. The support acting and story are pretty much sidelined for good action sequences, which are fun. It’s a easy to watch good time.

A morte do cinema de ação maluco e o padrão que infectou o cinema de ação Hollywoodiano com clones e clones do filme do Stahelski, mas a maioria sem conseguir fazer um trabalho tão bom porque no fim são cópias sem alma. Minha segunda visita a franquia e devo admitir que não sou o maior fã de John Wick e do Stahelski como diretor e esse primeiro filme é do jeitinho que eu lembro, um bom filme de ação que definiu o padrão do gênero de ação estadunidense que vieram em seguida nessa onda. O plano sequência, o homem que busca vingança por algo simples, mas que tem um peso emocional pessoal muito forte e um protagonista visualmente marvante. É curioso como John Wick recicla muitas idéias que vem de um cinema de ação asiático, principalmente nas décadas de 80 e 90. Acho que ele é um filme muito competente na entrega da ação, admito que não tem momentos tão memoráveis, não ironicamente eu revi esse como se fosse a primeira vez, e é um filme que parece que é um fantasma na franquia. Quando se fala de John Wick é sempre do 2 pra frente, talvez porque o 2 já comece a lapidar as idéias e a ação de forma geral? Talvez, mas é um primeiro capítulo que tá encontrando seu lugar no mundo e graças ao carisma do Keanu Reeves, até porque atuando ele não tá, e uma direção até que competente em cenas de ação de tiro, o que peca um pouco na fisicalidade dos confrontos corpo à corpo, é um bom filme. Não é a melhor coisa feita no cinema de ação da década passada, mas é bom! Minha maior reclamação é como ele é feinho em alguns momentos, mas bonito em outros e o designe de som que é tenebroso, tive que ficar regulando volume toda hora!

If “…and I took that shit personally.” Was a movie. Man I fucking love a good revenge action flick, and as both a car enthusiast and dog person, this movie checks all the boxes for me. Beyond stoked to see the rest of the franchise. No clue how I hadn’t seen them until now, but glad I finally am. Best way to kick off 2025; Keanu Reeves kicking ass.

Meh. Kind of recycled plot, the greyish-hue to set the intensity got quite distracting as the film went on. I nearly dozed off in the first 20 minutes. If this had came out in 2001 I would’ve given it more credit, but for a 2014 film it really lacked substance. And it’s so bizarre that I can’t remember if I’ve watched it before. If I did it wasn’t memorable then and it certainly isn’t memorable now.

Imagine the aesthetic of Nicolas Winding Refn's Drive mixed with the action of the latest James Bond films, mix it together with a ton of violence, and you essentially get John Wick. Surprisingly, all of this seems to work wonders together, creating one of the best action films that I have ever seen. Keeanu Reeves is back and is badder than ever. John Wick is a simple tale of revenge, but done in a way that honestly took my breath away. The action sequences were brilliantly choreographed, paired with just the right amount of violence to create sequences that will stay with me for a very long time. John Wick certainly is one of the most entertaining action films that I have seen in a long time. I am very interested in seeing how John Wick Chapter 2 compares to this, and hopefully I will be very satisfied with it. John Wick is badass, and needs to be watched by anyone who loves action films, great cinematography, and some fantastic choreographed fight scenes.
