This film captures the anxiety employees feel when a massive knowledge-based machine shows up and threatens to replace their jobs. At first, I was honestly surprised and impressed. A machine like that in the 50s? Really? It made me realize that long before modern AI, people were already imagining computers that could store and retrieve information almost instantly. It’s not AI in the way we understand it today, more like an early vision of a super-advanced database or search engine. Still, as a technology student, that idea alone really sparked my interest to dive deeper into machine learning in the future. Back to the film, what I love is how it shows that even with a powerful information processing machine, you still need the right human minds to manage and interpret it. Just like today, technology can process data fast, but it doesn’t replace human judgment. That human role still matters.

Extra half-star for Katharine Hepburn's 'curfew shall not ring tonight scene' - it is so fun! I'm so glad that we can just google random information instead of having to actually call someone for it. Also, at one point Tracy's character actually said, "I'll bet you write beautiful letters." and my heart did a thing because she did actually write Tracy one 18 years after he died!
