Diary entries forHalloween II
Halloween II

why tf does he moan like that ?
Halloween II
It took years of people drilling in my head recaps similar to the positive reviews here that "Actually rob zombie's halloween 2 is incredible and not complete trash like you think". And rewatching it today, I get it somewhat. The trauma (mostly in the form of grief and PTSD) in the characters portrayed authentically, and in the case of Scout Taylor-Compton, effectively. The mood during scenes where it's on display at its best is completely chaotic, not allowing you to breathe. Getting back to Scout real quick, this film gives her more chances and more time to shine than the far inferior previous Rob Zombie Halloween did, and the benefit is noticeable. Brad Dourif gets some great scenes. And yes, there is a Weird Al cameo, it's incredible. But a lot of my complaints are still present. The worst parts of his first one are at best still present, at worst doubled down on. I don't care about this version of Michael, let alone him being humanized, especially after killing and eating a dog (I watched the unrated director's cut here, I don't remember if that was included in the theatrical version). The character of Loomis simply deserved better than I'd ever consider Zombie reducing him to a cynical book-writer/motivational speaker trying to profit off his experience for most of this and then getting a half-assed redemption. I now feel like I appreciate what Rob tried with just this film, even if I don't like most of the characters he attempted it with. I can't say I feel like rewatching this anytime soon to give it a bigger chance though. I need to tone it down with depressing stuff until I'm in a better place
Halloween II
Alright, so maybe this is closer to the maximalist Zombie experience? While the aesthetic itself isn't my own I can certainly enjoy the supreme commitment to it. (Just the fact they let him go whole hog is a kind of amazement.) Not a fan of 'apocalypse Viking' Michael. Not even a fan of the connective vision quest. Forever a fan of kids wearing an absurdly oversized mask in the bleakest of contexts. Brad Dourif deserves his sticky bun. Starting to get tired, but overall having fun with exploring all these different takes through the years.
Halloween II
"Hey, world! Guess what. I'm Michael Myers' sister! I'm so fucked!"
Halloween II
In no way, shape, or form do I believe that this is a worthy sequel to Zombie's first Halloween feature, and I strongly believe that this is one of the worst sequels of all time. This being said, the film itself is genius. Instead of having a linear storyline like the original, Zombie's sequel goes the route of his next film The Lords of Salem, a surreal film that works extremely well as a film, but does absolutely nothing to further the story of the first film. Bloodier and crazier than the first film, Halloween II shows that Zombie just wanted to have fun with a film, really showing that he doesn't care what people think, he's just making a film that he wants to make. There were many sequences throughout the film that did leave me breathless, which is very surprising for a Rob Zombie film. While the film works on its own, it still is a terrible sequel to a very decent first film. The plot of the film seemed to be completely different than the first film, mainly due to its non-linear storytelling. With flashbacks and cuts to new characters, the film seemed to somehow work, despite its chaotic nature. Halloween II is Zombie's most experimental film that works in his filmography, but doesn't work as a sequel to Halloween.
Halloween II
What happened!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! This movie started out great! Then it all started to go downhill! I'm not sure you could even call this a sequel! It's more of a continuation that doesn't really have to do with the first! I'm extremely disappointed in this film! I was hoping for something that was going to be amazing like the first, but instead we get this chaotic film! Rob Zombie, what happened!?!?

Halloween II
Man, I know there’s a lot to dislike in this film, and it is by no means perfect, but I love the risks taken. The opening hospital sequence is fantastic. The idea of Laurie dealing with her parentage and PTSD from the attacks years earlier is great, and Zombie does his best to write that material though it’s maybe a bit above him. Every time I watch this I like it more & more.
Halloween II
Oooff, this was brutal. Rob Zombie’s first outing was rough enough as it is, but this one, THIS is on a whole new level. People really seem to underestimate Rob Zombie’s ability to capture true terror. Seeing Laurie’s deteriorating mental state two years after the events of the first movie is fucking horrifying, especially that foreshadowing scene regarding Annie, and her death was just GUTWRENCHING. Truly an underrated remake.
