House of Usher
the way Vincent Price yells "Don't Touch Meeeeee" is so funny!
House of Usher
House of Usheris an utterly spellbinding film, with lavish sets and atmosphere for days. While it may be a bit of a departure from the story Poe originally wrote, the changes were worthwhile, allowing this fairly simple story to flourish, with characters that feel more grounded than those featured in the original short story. Price, to no surprise, is fantastic, offering a more subdued role than I’ve seen him in, but still packing in some major punches. I ended up changing my tv to black and white halfway through, which I found to be a much better watch personally, but the color didn’t detract from the gorgeous sets they had created. I think I enjoy the base of the original story more than this one, but I still loved this adaptation of Poe’s story. I’ll be interested to see the other Poe adaptations Corman did, might have found a theme for this year’s horror marathon!
House of Usher
I didn't know until recently that Mike Flanagan's "The Fall of the House of Usher" was a remake of this amazing film. I love the fact that he's a 60s horror fan.
House of Usher
Really loved how spooky the vibes were, every shot of the house was so gorgeous. There’s not really that much blood except for one or two scenes and the way it’s used was terrifying. 8/10
House of Usher
I thought this was really fantastic. This is my first dip into the Corman/Poe works and I am so surprised at how incredibly well the story is executed here. Some of it is a bit stretched to turn this short story into a feature film, but it at least feels faithful without drifting too far away from the core of the narrative. I love the performances, the short runtime makes this easily accessible, and this is another one of those films that makes me realize how much I really deeply enjoy gothic horror. Macabre, beautiful, delivers. Wonderful first time entry into my October watches.
House of Usher
Very visually nice watch
