criterion challenge #5 romance _______ odd pick for this category because it’s more about the sexual awakening of a young girl than a “love story” of sorts. i think the lead actress does a very good job in her role, capturing that sort of conflict going on in adolescence. felt like this would be a sort of slice-of-life story, which it is, but it’s a bit more disturbing than i anticipated. starts off as something i could see as a vulnerable and frank look at budding sexual desires (though you know, you could say it’s a bit strange because of the character being a teenager + male director, it’s a bit of a delicate subject) but it’s hard to say whether it ends in that way, especially with the pivot the film takes a ways in. pretty well shot, also.
