Sausage Party
This movie is absolutely hilarious. When you watch it with an open mind, it is so so good. The rest of these reviews have their panties in a twist. This is a must see.
Sausage Party
imagine getting a degree in digital media arts, and being hired to animate food fucking each other. bet you didn't expect your life to end up like that, huh?
Sausage Party
Controversial films are always so interesting to see. Yet again, Seth Rogen stars in another film that caused controversy, just not to the level of The Interview. Sausage Party is done by the animators who created films like Shrek 2 and Madagascar 3, so they have a reputation for making children's movies. Then comes along a film called Sausage Party, a completely different film than the previous films that they have done. Instead of the innocent humor of the previous films, Sausage Party replaces cute humor with crude and often disturbing humor. Comedies are supposed to make people laugh, or at least make them chuckle. There was probably one scene that I actually laughed at, and that was only due to a film reference (when Gum was shot and morphed with the Terminator 2 music playing). The rest of the jokes landed flat, or ended up being extremely offensive. A current trend in comedies today is to make films that are extremely vulgar and contain enough sex jokes to make your mind go numb. While there were some slapstick elements that made the film a tad bit enjoyable, Sausage Party just wasn't funny. What was interesting to see was the development of the religious themes throughout the film. I automatically picked up on them from the beginning, and watched them do almost absolutely nothing for the film. The only times that this theme really was shown were a couple scenes, which only dealt with same-sex relationships, which ends up being thrown out of the door in the film's final scenes. It would have been extremely interesting to actually see this theme develop into something, instead of only using it to lead up to an awkward finale. There was one scene in particular that I didn't find funny, which happened to seem to be a rape scene. Rape is something that is not funny, and is something that shouldn't be joked about. It horrified me to watch this, knowing that there are people who have been through this exact situation, only to have it thrown into their faces for the sake of comedy. There are some things that are funny, with rape not being one of those that should even be remotely considered funny. Sausage Party indeed is a controversial film deserving of it's status. Just like The Interview, Sausage Party was extremely hyped up, with many people saying that it was one of the funniest films they have ever seen. I found almost no humor throughout, but rather extremely bland crude jokes and some disturbing situations. I was hoping that this film was going to be one of the comedies of the year, but this is far from it. One watch is enough for this film, although I would be open to watching it one more time just to show my roommate how bad it is.
Sausage Party
Only muttering a couple of half-laughs is something that shouldn't happen during a comedy, but seemed to happen all the time during Sausage Party. There were so many points throughout the film that were extremely offensive, with a majority of the jokes seeming to fall flat, with the rare instance that there was a smart joke or instance occurring (a lesbian taco is honestly brilliant). Being the first rated R CG film, Sausage Party sets the bar pretty low for other adult-oriented animated films, which I truly hope there will be more of. There was a lot of potential with Sausage Party, but a film as offensive as this really doesn't deserve to be watched ever again.
