Mr. Holland's Opus

Recommended by DrCornyFetus Mr. Holland, it has come to my attention that you are teaching the students rock and roll. Is this a problem? I don't think I've ever felt so in-the-middle with a film before. It's not necessarily bad, but it is still far from great. The acting is good, but the writing feels so flat and pretentious. The themes and story elements are important, but the movie as a whole feels unfocused and bounces around without much of a narrative focal point tying it together. I see what they were trying to do with the protagonist, and while there are times where it shines through on a good way, most of the time the writing doesn't make him come off as a complex and troubled character, and more just like an asshole. It's overly long with a lot it wants to say, but the lack of control makes it feel more tiresome than it should be
