Tender. Free-spirited. A reckoning of coming of age, but also coming to terms with truth. Arenโt we always trying to let truth out? Let truth be free? How do you release it into the world when you too are developing? I always appreciate how much empathy Gus Van Sant has for his characters. Tracking shots from behind evoke so much. Shower scenes too. So much is said without even having to show face, without having to use dialogue, with very little. We have so little when we become. Half skate video, half murder mystery, itโs the set up for a good story, and plays out as such with such a keen eye on sensitivity and forming a strong bildungsroman.
