Like Father, Like Son

It's amazing how Koreeda manages to make the go-to plot of soapy dramas to be a non-messy but still powerful by showing pain in slow and heartwarming point of view. But of course, it's a Koreeda film after all.

Like Father, Like Son

Kore-eda's question is this: What would life be like if I was born into another family? From here, he layers. Humanity. Love. How we love. Economics. Social class. Critiques on Japanese society. It's quite a marvel. You feel like you've lived a lifetime through his films, even glimpse at the children growing up, learning from their parents. What they pick up, what they give up. Sacrifices. Comforts. Arguments. Anger. What we don't say.

Like Father, Like Son

New comfort director unlocked! Thx God for creating a human creature called Hirokazu Kore-eda. I promise I will always give my biggest love to this man and I will be his number one fans in this entire universe! Kore-eda is truly a king when it comes to destroying the feeling of a weak n vulnerable human child like me. Through Like Father, Like Son he brilliantly succed to deliver so many felling and messages, especially about the true definition of family. This movie emphasize that we can get an emotional and intimate relationship not only from our by blood-family, we can feel bigger love even from someone who we know for just several years, but the intimacy and interconnection that we feel maybe beyond our by blood-family. Also, the message about the concept of like father like son itself makes my heart wholesome and wrench at the same time bcs when i reflected it to myself i feel the same thing. I do feel that some part in me, like how i speak and the way i handle problem is just like my father did. I'm my father himself. And the point when i realize that, I'm sobbed. I miss bapak so bad! But, on the other way we have to aware that kid is an entity of human themself who have their own identity that can be opposite from their parents and the parents can't denied it!
