Beneath the Planet of the Apes

This continues to grow on me throughout the years. Such a solid franchise. Beneath the Planet of the Ranks (https://boxd.it/fIK2G)

Beneath the Planet of the Apes

I enjoyed this a lot more on this watch than I usually have. It still falls below the OG, ESCAPE, and CONQUEST for me, but it’s really interesting to get more insight into the ape society. Super bleak ending. Beneath the Planet of the Ranks (https://boxd.it/fIK2G)

Beneath the Planet of the Apes

Much like Charles Heston told the producers: this is a waste of time and I don’t want to be here. That being said…dope ending.

Beneath the Planet of the Apes

"Almighty and everlasting bomb that came down upon us to make heaven under earth, light in our darkness, oh instrument of god, grant us thy peace" Felt like watching more planet of the apes after watching fantastic planet considering how similar they are and can't lie i actually enjoyed this one despite all its weirdness. The religious commentary of this and the prior film continues to be the most intriguing aspect of the franchise for me personally, it feels a bit on the nose that the major religious focus of this film is on a symbolically Catholic organization that worships a doomsday device. You can't help but notice the parallels to rapture obsession and no doubt parallels to the cold war politics of mutually assured destruction given the timing of the films release, as well as the groups framing of the doomsday weapon as "an instrument of peace". And although it wasn't explored more it's always interesting to see the inter-ape racial politics and how they mirror our own, also feeling relevant to the time of this films release is the anti war protestors being brutally beaten and locked up paralleling the anti war Vietnam protests of the time. Would be nice to see more of this dynamic as well as more dr. Zira but yaknow ill take what i can get of that queen. The ending is dark depressing and quiet jarring but it feels consistent with the doomerism of the series so far, it seems the line "My god did we finally do it? Did we finally really do it?" Marks the overall tone of these two movies. It reflects a fear that our own self destruction is pretty much inevitable, that our conservative ideology and infighting can't even die with human civilization, that even if we were to take ourselves out of the picture; earth would once again be polluted with a similarly barbaric, backwards, closeminded, and stubborn race of apes. That somehow all advanced societies are doomed to fall into the same social political traps we find ourselves struggling with today. Not to mention the fact that ofc as soon as a woman starts speaking she gets murked what a world what a world 😮‍💨
