Days of Heaven

beautiful cinematography, beautiful score, beautiful actors. unfortunately, the editing feels half-assed. i had such high expectations for this movie and i was let down. it's a shame because i really wanted to love it.

Days of Heaven

Managed to catch a revival showing at the local indie, an intimate space with a just-big-enough-screen to do this film justice. Such luminous landscapes, interiors, close-ups, with seemingly the whole host of history's laborers silhouetted against that enduring twilight. Malick's stream of visuals suit this tale very well, connecting the micro to the macro in a general rush of beautifully captured and voice-over'd Time, and with character stories flowing as surely and unavoidably as the rivers they all rest and run in.

Days of Heaven

Now 5 star, forgot how intriguing the story was. Contender for the best-looking film of all time. Arguably my favorite Malick.

Days of Heaven

this film teaches us that we will live in a perpetual cycle if we don't let go of the past. bill thought their lives would change when the farmer died, but the farmer didn't die, and their lives certainly did. this film also teaches us to live more honestly. Nobody is perfect You have a half evil and half angel this story is presented so beautifully in every frame. the essence of this film that i grasped is that we must be brave, do good, and be honest. otherwise, we will return to square one, and our sacrifices will be in vain.

Days of Heaven

72/100 The Perfect Shots - boxd.it/caUEU (https://boxd.it/caUEU) Despite this being 1.5 hours, I found it tedious. Yes it’s one of the most gorgeous films I’ve ever seen and in many ways, there are similarities to his previous and first film Badlands. This ended in a similar fashion, the silhouettes were similar except this was of course much more in the golden hour and attaining that perfect shot, numerous times. We got the Exodus in paradise and have you ever seen so many locust close ups before? I liked the film overall, I liked how bad intentions always lead to hell and that’s what the opening line was about but it took a rather mundane approach to it whereas visual storytelling was heavily prioritised over the main story at hand which to be fair was quite simple in itself. I suppose that’s just Terrence Malick, a beautiful experience but not necessarily a man of expansive dialogue. This is one of those films which I’m sure looked incredible even before the Criterion remaster. Regardless, Criterion always delivers.

Days of Heaven

That’s one way to throw everything away. This got pretty sad in the final 30 minutes, didn’t expect a lot of it. Really great performances from everyone.  The cinematography was wonderful, lots of pretty shots. Landscape shots especially, with black silhouettes of the workers in front of a rising or setting sun. Definitely deserved its best cinematography Academy Award.  8.5/10

Days of Heaven

A profound work of the most subtle kind of art there is—almost jumbled together in short but sweet instances of plot progression that somewhat reflect the recollection of short thoughts and memories. Terrence Malick directs this tender and most definitely beautiful picture with a unique layout to it all, ditching the familiar romances and melodrama that would be accustomed in such terrain. Days of Heaven is as much of a commentary on the mass of laborers from so many backgrounds that worked in such condition as it is one big and unconventionally shot drama about the feeling of happiness that can suddenly emerge and then soon enough evaporate. The cinematography is the definition of beautiful—seeing the horde of locusts take off against a glimmer of orange sky is the perfect fucking example—not to mention the surge of music that compliments each muted emotion. Mixing that sort of stuff with such subdued characters in a scenic backdrop is weirdly refreshing and oh so picturesque. It takes a bit to get into, but my god is that second half exceptional. 4.2/5
