Juice
Watching this made me realize that not only did we lose Tupac the rapper, whom I love, but we also lost Tupac the actor as well. What could have easily been a "by the books" crime drama, was significantly amplified by the performances of the main actors, in particular, Tupac and Omar Epps. Nothing here is new, but it stands out as one of the best in its genre, with a killer soundtrack to boot.
Juice
“Just ‘cause you pour syrup on shit don’tmake it pancakes.” This film has the Juice! I was pleasantly surprised by the way it morphs from a 90’s coming of age hood classic, into a straight up horror film. It’s wild seeing Tupac essentially playing a slasher villain, slowly killing people off one-by-one. Omar Epps had easily the best performance (aside from Tupac), I felt so bad for Q losing all his homies. The scene where he’s just scratchin’ out a beat in his room was shot really well, and the DJ battle sequence in the club was awesome. Always glad to see Samuel L. Jackson and Queen Latifah, of course. All of that AND a banger soundtrack? This is definitely one of my favorites of all time now. Rest in Power, Tupac.
