Diary entries forA Bronx Tale
A Bronx Tale
Good. The acting from the main characters was great, but some of the side characters really took me out of it with their bad performances. A great tale with many quotable moments, I really liked the ending too. It tied everything together well, and goes to level the many talents of De Niro.

A Fractured & Weird Screenplay turns out to be Masterpiece as whole. Uppi is a Mad Genius!!
A Bronx Tale
A Bronx Tale is a touching and beautifully told coming-of-age story with consistently superb acting. The dynamic between Calogero, his father, and Sonny is compelling, and the film strikes the perfect balance between warmth, suspense, and relatable lessons. I particularly enjoyed the film because I love the atmosphere of the 1960s; the soundtrack is fantastic, and the ending especially moved me. Overall, A Bronx Tale is a moving and unforgettable film that stays with you long after the credits roll.
A Bronx Tale
A Bronx Tale is one of the best mafia movies out there. I really liked the relationship between Calogero and Sonny, and how Calogero grows up surrounded by the mafia world. The contrast between Sonny and Calogero’s father is perfectly written his father disapproves of Sonny, which creates a strong emotional conflict. I also liked how, when Calogero meets the girl, no one wants him to date her except the “bad guy,” Sonny. After Sonny’s death, Calogero realizes that many of the lessons Sonny taught him were actually right. This shows how well the movie is written and why it’s such a powerful and memorable story.
A Bronx Tale
It’s not just another gangster movie it’s about choices, loyalty, and growing up around the wrong people trying to do the right thing. And yeah, I’ll say it… this was actually better than Goodfellas.
A Bronx Tale
As a directorial debut by none other thanRobert De Niro, and on-screen debut of Lillo Brancato, A Bronx Taleis many things - a mob movie, coming of age tale, exploration on racism, and romance. With that comes my main issue with the film, as I found it to be generally unfocused in the story it tries to tell as it jumps around from plot to plot. At the heart of it all, this really feels like a work of love from everyone involved, particularly directorRobertDe Niroand Chazz Palmiteri- when asked why he decided to take on directing this film, he stated he was drawn by Chazz’s one-man-show of the same name in LA. I was mostly interested in the story surrounding the father and son duo, Lorenzo and Calogero, as I felt it was probably the strongest narrative I could connect to. It’s got some great performances and wonderful music, not to mention some really funny moments, but it all felt - and I’m sorry if this is considered a “hot take” - Scorsese lite. It’s not crazy to imagine DeNiro taking inspiration from working on countless mob films with Marty, so it’s not like I was surprised how similar some of the beats felt to his movies. I’m not saying that’s a bad thing, mind you, it’s just an observation. There are still some things that set it apart, mainly how it’s shot as I found it to be particularly moody throughout. There is a lot of use of dark spaces and shadows, which isn’t something I generally attribute to Scorsese’s gangster films. All in all, it’s a decent film that tries to cover a lot of different ideas and themes. Regardless if it is a bit messy for my liking, it’s an undoubtedly great first time watch.
