Only Lovers Left Alive
"I needed a reflection." Five century meander and general lingering -- tops to the mood for another fucking year
Only Lovers Left Alive
será que o adam iria gostar do vampiro lestat? fica o questionamento! achei em geral meio parado e a atuação meio xoxa, mas talvez seja só o espírito do filme. gostei da construção dos personagens :) #meta
Only Lovers Left Alive
welcome back (book) louis and lestat but they shuffle their characteristics between each other. ava's right though, they were such prudes and performative as vampires. but the movie captured so intimately how lonely or slow or even tiresome being a creature who's experienced it all, that you can put an exact date on when things were made or say the scientific names of living things whenever you bump into them—that what's really left for you at the end was to engulf yourself in love and that entanglement to keep the current of time running.
Only Lovers Left Alive
Unfortunately, it felt pretentious and boring. I won’t elaborate on Tom Hiddleston in that hideous wig, but yeah, that sure was something, I guess.

❝How can you have lived for so long and still not get it? This self obsession is a waste of living; it could be spent surviving things, appreciating nature, nurturing kindness and friendship, and dancing.❞ · · ─────── ·𖥸· ─────── · · I started watching Only Lovers Left Alive for Tilda, but I ended up really liking it. The plot took a little time to get going, and a good 40 minutes was spent setting the scene and introducing Eve and Adam. It was interesting to see how different Eve and Adam's outlooks on life were, and right up until their meeting I was anticipating what their relationship would be like. After Ava arrived, it felt like the rest of the film passed very quickly, which was a nice change of pace after the languid beginning. The cinematography was absolutely beautiful, with dark shadows contrasting the gorgeous jewel tones of the sets, and the juxtaposing colour schemes applied to Eve and Adam too: I loved her brilliant white clothes and hair against his gloomy outfit. I wasn't the biggest fan of the soundtrack, but I appreciated that it fit the aesthetic of the film. Tilda and Tom Hiddleston were excellent as Eve and Adam respectively: she was so calm and soothing versus his emo, pessimistic and self-centered personality. Initially I wasn't a fan of Adam, but when Ava appeared I very quickly switched to his side. Mia Wasikowska did a great job as Ava, because I hated her the moment she opened her mouth (she reminded me of a family member) and she was hard to watch. John Hurt didn't have much screen-time, but he was still so gentle and father-like, and I was almost moved to tears when he was on his deathbed. I wish we could've seen more of his life in Tangiers with Eve. On the whole, Only Lovers Left Alive was great and a very cool take on the vampire trope; I would certainly recommend giving it a go.
