Fragments for Venus

i loved how this begins with the description of the portrayal of black women in art (as slaves, unhappy) while showing the contrast of how white women were portrayed (desirable, as deities). i feel like this is a great time to be studying art history, where art historians are finally trying to break the mold the white man has shaped art to be through the last centuries. then we get footage of what black womanhood is today, redefining the portrayal of black women for a more happy and free depiction. i find that works like these are important today, to help us decolonize art history, to make us revisit works and analyze them with a different perspective.
