a pretty shocking noir that doesn't duck from going all the way. love the story and all the characters but for whatever reason I never really bought Fords performance. i never saw him as the tough guy cop he was trying to be. he was just a dude who knew tough guy phrases and didn't quite embody them. doesn't ruin the experience but frankly he doesn't hold a candle to Gloria Grahame
