Star Wars: The Force Awakens
My hot take here is The Last Jedi was better, and I do like this current trilogy thus far (certainly more than the prequel trilogy). The story so far has been fine, and while the nostalgia has been a tad much at times, it hasn't really provided more negatives than positives to either film. The future of the franchise is in good hands with Ridley and Boyega front and center, and I wouldn't mind seeing more of Adam Driver, albeit more of TLJ Kylo and less TFA Kylo.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens
An unfortunate experience. I can't even tell at what point it occurred, but I've made the disconnect. The original trilogy was what sent me into sci-fi and fantasy in general -- must've watched that twenty, thirty times growing up. I think I might have read almost every Star Wars book published before 1997 or so. I genuinely enjoyed much of the prequel trilogy at one point, even viewing Attack of the Clones twice in theaters. I was just enjoying the world that had been created, relishing the concept artist sandbox, and always, always that comforting, rich, enveloping layer of nostalgia. With this latest chapter I'm realizing I'm not the SW participant I used to be and will likely be just fine without another dose of the Force. I caught myself comparing it to any other film. But Star Wars is too massive, too ingrained in culture and childhoods for basic cinema analysis, seems to me, even as I'm exiting the fandom. There's the idea it really ought be measured against itself and how it fulfills its own purpose within the SW framework. I'm looking around, hearing friends talk about it, and this thing has moved fans in a very meaningful way. The nostalgia bonfire is burning bright and I'm glad the film works for so many people in such a positive way.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens
Saw it the once back in 2016, only real thing that's changed since then is the sharp rise in disgust towards Disney with every passing season.

Un día serás vengado, George Lucas. Ese navajazo sucio no saldrá impune.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens
They had an opportunity to do something really fresh and new. And instead they played it safe. I love all of the new characters, Poe, Rey, and Finn are fantastic as the leads. Unfortunately it's the story that's lacking, not the characters. Hopefully Rian will be able to take the franchise somewhere new.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens
Seen in IMAX 3D What an experience this was. I had only seen documentaries in IMAX, so this was officially my first experience with IMAX and Hollywood productions. And it was beautiful. I had problems with 3D before (i.e. The Nightmare Before Christmas, Pirates of the Carribben: On Stranger Tides), but I actually really enjoyed it this time. I think seeing it in this format made me enjoy it more. I was able to notice more throughout the film that I hadn't previously noticed, making it a fun adventure of seek-and-find. This was truly an unforgettable experience, making me enjoy The Force Awakens even more the second time watching it.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens
The Force Awakens is one of my favorite entries into the Star Wars universe, likely due to the fact that it’s the first film that I really had a connection to. While I did watch the original trilogy growing up, as well as the prequel films, this is the first one that I really came to appreciate. Which is funny, seeing the the final film in this trilogy, directed by J.J. Abrams as well, happens to be my least favorite. Nonetheless, this is a fantastic start to the series, introducing some great new characters, and one of my favorite villains from the entire series. It really is a great time, a lot of fun, and a big surprise for the franchise.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens
This may be an unpopular opinion, but The Force Awakens is the best film in the Star Wars series. No shade toward the original trilogy, but The Force Awakens is the most visually arresting film of the series, as well as the most diverse in characters and actors and manages to create a world that feels just like the original world, but with some great new characters. The Force Awakens is a beautiful film, with some of the most beautiful shots of the entire series. While the main villain here isn't as iconic or inherently evil as Darth Vader, Kylo Ren still is an interesting character, a character that will be very intriguing to see in the next films. Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens is a stunning addition to the Star Wars universe and truly is the best film to have come out yet.
