White Christmas

I completely forgot just how stunning this film is! The VistaVision coloring is absolutely gorgeous, and with the costuming and set pieces, this film really pops. It's an unconventional holiday film, but one that is a perfect watch on Christmas.

White Christmas

White Christmas is the perfect holiday film to watch on a cold day, sipping hot cocoa, and wanting to have a good time. All of the songs are amazing, especially when sung by the brilliant Bing Crosby. The sets are glorious, the costumes are stunning, this really is an epic musical that really is perfect for the holiday season. It's a surprise that I hadn't even heard of this musical, especially with the fantastic cast that it had. It's definitely going to be essential viewing every holiday season from now on, continuing my holiday film tradition.

White Christmas

not really the christmas movie i was after surprisingly. it was christmas themed for like 10 minutes and just a normal musical the rest of the time. still pretty good, but i was looking for a christmas-y feel the whole time

White Christmas

The set design is so beautiful and vibrant, looks amazing on 4K.  Also, the choreography is insane, reminded me quite a lot of La La Land.  9/10

White Christmas

When the friend group small but you're all obsessed with 🎶 snooooowwww 🎶 to preface this review: while the film is overall a fun energetic romp the number at the center point of the film where they fondly reminisce on the "the minstrel days we miss." was quite off putting for me as a first time viewer. Brynn Shiovitz did a good piece on the background of the song "Mandy" and the ways in which the film uses it to reinforce a white patriotic nostalgia for the days of the minstrel show even if blackface was not explicitly used in the way we think about blackface in the 21st century. (https://www.zocalopublicsquare.org/blackface-white-christmas/) I would definitely recommend the article to anyone interested in the topic. the dance choreography, music, punchy silliness and love plotlines were undeniably so full of whimsey and lighthearted joy that it's hard not to have a good time at one point or another while watching and I can see why this is considered such a classic. another day another vibrant 1950s buddy comedy musical where the main duo really should have just settled down with each other. (I mean Davis literally compared Judy to a cocker spaniel 2x AND said he didn't want to kiss her "until absolutely necessary" AND that he "wasn't the marrying type") not to mention they go straight from the army to musical theater arguably 2 of America's gayest lasting institutions. also holy the Haynes sisters are so gorg the whole time - all their looks are so fab. and this is going to sound like a strange compliment but the costuming has such a great understanding of how to dress them to flatter their silhouettes. the ending was pretty wholesome too (despite the military propaganda)
