The definitive Watchmen experience in my opinion. Surpasses the Moore comics, runs laps around the Snyder film, laughs at Doomsday Clock from universes away Between the last two seasons of The Leftovers and these nine episodes, I would let Damon Lindelof do whatever he wanted to me as long as he promised to create a show about it afterwards. This is peak TV, and we're all better for experiencing it

Watchmen could honestly be the greatest comic book movie ever created. I would even go to the length of saying that it's one of the greatest films ever made. If you think about films that are considered to be the "best", you'd probably be thinking of Casablanca, Vertigo, Citizen Kane, or even Gone with the Wind. Those movies are classics for a reason, and they hold their place among some of the greatest films ever created, but I can put Watchmen with the likes of those classics. While I was watching this, I came to the realization that I had seen other Zack Snyder films before. For some unknown reason, it dawned on me that he did 300 and Sucker Punch. I saw the similarities to those while I was watching Snyder's Batman vs Superman and for some reason it clicked while I was watching this. And it makes sense. Stylistically, the films that I have seen from him are very similar. They rely on heavy use of CG and have extremely stylized fight sequences. Once I realized this, I knew that I was going to be in for a treat while watching this. Snyder's typical direction is there. I'd have to say that the opening sequence to the film is one of the film's greatest scenes. The moodiness and the hyper-realistic action really leave an impact that lasts throughout the rest of the film. When a film has a fantastic opening sequence, your expectations can rise. Most of the time, movies disappoint after fantastic opening sequences. But Watchmen doesn't. The film starts off with a bang and continues it through the 3 hour long run time. It's gritty, it's dark, it's hyper-realistic, and it's one hell of a film. I wasn't entirely sure what the plot of the film was going into this, so I really had no expectations for the film. But if I had any, this film exceeded all of them. Snyder is a fantastic filmmaker, and when paired with some fantastic cinematography, creates visually stunning films. While I haven't read the comics, and I don't know how much the movie deviated from the comics, I loved watching it. Watchmen beat The Dark Knight for greatest comic book film. While The Dark Knight is practically perfect, I just had a lot more fun watching this. I love The Dark Knight, but I think Watchmen really steals the show. After watching this, I am confident that Snyder is going to do the rest of the DC films that he's directing justice. Now that I've seen the director's cut of the film, I need to check out the ultimate cut. Maybe I'll love it even more.

The Ultimate Cut Sometimes, the Director's Cut of a film just isn't enough. Coming in at a whopping 215 minutes, the Ultimate Cut of Watchmen surely is the one to watch. With quite a few surprising scenes added in, this cut is the one that truly makes this film feel whole. Watchmen is already perfect as is, but these extra scenes truly transport you into the world and into the comics. I absolutely adore this film's ambition and grittiness, and despite what people may say, I think that this film is astounding. Watchmen truly is the greatest superhero film that has been released yet, even better than Logan, which countless people now consider to be the greatest. I can't wait to finally read the comics and then rewatch this film and just see how close Snyder was to the comics and see how the casting was for the characters. Even if it's not a perfect adaptation of the comics, this film still is one of my absolute favorite films and still reigns as the greatest superhero film and comic book adaptation yet.

Starting this film at 1:30 am may have been a mistake, but it's a mistake that I still do not regret. Many consider The Dark Knight to be the greatest superhero film, and I myself consider it one of the best, but I cannot deny my love for Watchmen. Dark, gritty realism takes over in Zack Snyder's first delve into the world of comics, before the widely panned Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice. Snyder's first comic book adaptation is one for the ages, full of heart-stopping action, a fantastic ensemble, and a truly remarkable opening sequence. The opening sequence is honestly one of the most unforgettable sequences I have ever watched, with every sequence giving me chills as I watched it. As I have the director's cut, this is a longer version of the film, which still feels a little stuffy, a problem people had with BvS, which I believe would go away with the Ultimate cut, which I will hopefully get a copy of soon. Many films that go over the 150-minute mark seem to drag on, but Watchmen seemed to go by like a breeze, with the runtime seeming to go by extremely quickly. With a comic adaptation like this, I hope that Snyder continues to do work in the DC Extended Universe, since he really seems to have a passion for these films. Watchmen is one of the most unforgettable films ever created, as well as the best superhero film to be released.

75/100 God Malik Åkerman is gorgeous! Oh and this is a good film too. So this was the Boys before the Boys but a much more complex story. However, the writing in this film was average. Other than Manhattan, all characters weren’t really explored or developed at all. Good cast and good soundtrack but with the story at hand, not as great a film as it could’ve been.
