Return to Oz

Pushed through my childhood fear and finally watched this one all the way through. How did I survive the Gmork back then from Neverending Story and not this film? Anyway, it was a delight! Now, time to face down the giants from Neverending Story II.

Return to Oz

Childhood imaginations reworked into nightmares to villainize Oz. Not as a place of wonder, but one full of decrepit fear and decay. You’re meant to grow up with Dorothy. Maybe the childhood imagination does die. Or perhaps morphs into images that haunt us. The Wheelers. Princess Mombi. You can call this Disney’s scariest flick. Wicked puppetry. Unnatural movements. Uncanny in the horrific ways possible. I wouldn’t be surprised if this film traumatized a bunch of kids back in the day. A bit plotless as the film could move in any direction it wanted to. Perhaps a bit long to get through, but there’s enough weird to really spread enough interest to keep you invested.
