Lee Cronin's The Mummy

"I can't live without knowing what happened to her." I believe a very early draft of this script had Katie being a Deadite, based on the utter ridiculousness of the third act pretty much hitting the beats of The Conjuring by way of Evil Dead. As many have already mentioned, the runtime is way, way too long, and with very little actually happening from scene to scene. All of which funnels into one main thought I had the entire time I was watching: Why make a mummy movie like this? In the big year of 2026 where every horror movie is 1) The Real Monster Is Trauma™, 2) comedy movie with blood, or 3) a half-assed requel, why choose such an outlandish premise and setting for a grounded possession flick? And besides all that, I really liked Evil Dead Rise, but is Lee Cronin that much of a household name to warrant his trademark on the title?

Lee Cronin's The Mummy

Lee Cronin is really, really good at making modern-Evil Dead films and a) it's a shame this is his most visually-ugly one. Not even in the intended/gross way but in the "why do a lot of films have to have this filter-like look these days" way. And b) it's a real shame he keeps the modern-Deadite trope going (you know the one. Where the villains fuck up people a lot but somehow when the film ends there's only a bodycount of like...3? Maybe 4?) Like even I'm real shocked I didn't love this, but it's maybe becoming tame? If you're going for something, go for it

Lee Cronin's The Mummy

Okay i admit, this is gore and disgusting, but the story is so long, and feel like exhausting to follow cuz they had only one job to bring Katie to some special treatment or exorcism, but they choose to keep her like that. This is below my expectation because someone said is more gory than Evil Dead Rise, nah Evil Dead Rise make me throw up after watch it, and this make me kinda sleepy even with little gag with the gore, the ending also so generic, i bet you're already seen many movies with this ending. The moral of the story is do not receive any gift or candy from weirdly neighbour.

Lee Cronin's The Mummy

Two and a half hours for a movie that should be 90 minutes long. The movie isn't bad, but it's tiring. It's a perfect movie to watch at home, not in a theater.

Lee Cronin's The Mummy

I don’t know y’all, I had an absolute blast watching this! I knew this was going to be a Lee Cronin production, so my expectations were set to expect Evil Dead Rise, and it didn’t disappoint! Granted, there are some weak points within the story, mainly involving the relationships within the family, but at the end of the day, I was wanting an Evil Dead-esque mummy feature, and it delivered exactly that. Effects are gnarly, it’s darkly comical, and I thought it was pretty well paced. It does have a little longer of a runtime, but I had no issue with that whatsoever, since I was having so much fun. It’s mean-spirited at times, but I thought it served the story well, so I didn’t mind that in the slightest. It’s interesting seeing the reactions to the film, since a lot of people seemingly were expecting something closer to the Fraser The Mummy, when it wasn’t marketed like that at all. Still, I had a blast with it and honestly can’t wait to get back into this world with a re-watch. Cronin really hasn’t missed so far, so I’m intrigued and excited to see what he does next.

Lee Cronin's The Mummy

❝She's been missing for eight years. What was our daughter doing in a three thousand year old sarcophagus?❞ ⊱ ─── . ݁₊ ⊹ . ݁ ᯽ ݁ . ⊹ ₊ ݁. ─── ⊰ I knew within a couple of minutes that this film would be very divisive, but I ended up liking Lee Cronin's The Mummy. The plot was pretty standard for a horror film, and I have to admit that it wasn't very scary, but it was creepy and definitely a little vomit-inducing. The pacing of the film could've been better; the first third or so took some time to get started, but that meant that the final act felt very rushed. Some of the dialogue at times, especially from Katie, was a bit cliché and cringey, but I could overlook that because for the most part the performances from the cast were pretty good, especially from Natalie Grace and May Calamawy. The makeup and special effects, however, were brilliantly done, and I loved the detail that went into Katie's appearance. All in all, is this better than the 1999 reimagining? Absolutely not. Is it better than the shitty Tom Cruise one? Undoubtedly yes. side-note: i think i'm cursed, because almost every cinema experience i've had this year has been terrible. there were two kids sat a couple of seats away from me in the same row, and they talked and laughed loudly through the entire film, and no amount of shushing would get them to shut up. not to mention, they took their shoes off and stuck their feet on the backs of the seats in front of them, even though people were sitting in them. they shouldn't have even been allowed in the screening; the film's an 18, and they couldn't be more than 11 years old. i thought i was going to lose my mind.

Lee Cronin's The Mummy

Credit where credit is due - this is an entirely unpleasant film. There’s not a single moment of joy to be had after the first 10 minutes. And while I do have issues with the film, it works overall. It’s maybe a bit too long, and I kinda would’ve rather spent more time with Zaki and the procedural detective supernatural thriller she was in rather than yet anotherscene of the hideous mummy daughter doing something gross or demon-y. But man, this is not a film that pulls its punches. Vicious, mean, and nasty. 2026 Ranked (https://boxd.it/RN1V4)
