A House of Dynamite

Essa parada de ficar voltando as mesmas falas irrita pra caralho. As atuações são muito boas, mas ficar revendo tudo de novo e de novo é chato demais. E que finalzinho fraco.

A House of Dynamite

A House of Dynamitetruly horrified me, scaring me in ways that horror films simply cannot. Having read Nuclear Warby Annie Jacobsen last year, many of the scenarios here were still fresh in my mind, and getting to see them play out, essentially in real time, took my breath away. Bigelow maintains a tight grip on tension, never letting it get slack, which comes to fruition in a film that is calm, yet simultaneously pulse-pounding. It’s a horrifying film to watch, but one that, unfortunately, is timely as ever.

A House of Dynamite

74/100 Check out my 2025 ranked - https://boxd.it/Fn1G4 As is the case with every Katheryn Bigelow film, it’s about the journey and not the end. This film however suffers from that cliffhanger. Yes this was sold as a movie showcasing what would happen if a nuclear attack was to be initiated and America’s response to it but by the end, you find yourself wholly dissatisfied because ultimately, they show very little and the worst part of it is that they show the same dialogue from multiple perspectives in three different arcs, the second arc is pure tension but the third arc is just repetitive and wasteful. You’d think the President would be the most impactful character in such a film but it’s quite the opposite. I like Gabriel Basso, Greta Lee was heavily underutilised, Jason Clarke was banging as usual and that’s about it. The others did what they could but nothing really interesting. The tension is definitely there and your expectations keep rising but that house full of dynamite is a house full of duds by the end. The soundtrack is disappointing and borderline annoying because it’s the same tune repeated over and over and I guess that’s the running theme with this movie. While it is quite interesting and entertaining, there’s simply not much at offer here, in fact the more I think about it, the lower I go so let’s leave it here.

A House of Dynamite

A House of Dynamite

Didn't expect the ending, all the performances were phenomenal. Sometimes it feels like this could very well be something that not far in the future could come to pass and that, is as bleak and terrifying truth.

A House of Dynamite

Bigelow and Oppenheim hype up the weal and woes of America’s egotism to mark its stance that it is America at its greatest again. That America is, quote-on-quote, a superpower, but trapped in its inability to stop a nuclear bomb on the brink of wiping out the entirety of Chicago. Sure, the rushed cast of families and couples and children and concern will lead you to believe anything but otherwise, and sure those jump cuts will give you the rush and adrenaline you need to stay with the film’s delusional concern that America is the one and only nation that exists and matters. And though this may be some strange way of Bigelow’s criticism of the US military, the ending from Bugonia (Sample URL) could’ve best represented the doom of the United States. Bigelow’s politics are clear. South Korea is not a political ally. It is instead some occupied land for the military to camp out at, leaving Pororo still and dead as foreshadow on the floor, lifelessly looking up at the absence of hope. Also, the term “The Sea of Japan” is used instead of South Korea’s preferred and advocated “East Sea.” American life is a joke, cares only for itself, and the joke will run itself into the ground into rubble and ruin, wasted dollars on empty talk and empty thought.
