The Ritual

I bet you've already seen this movie somewhere before. Exorcism movie all have this formula, too generic, too predictable, camera also too shaky and zoom in zoom out so much, so unserious. But the final act of this movie make me goosebumps and tense, so +½ star for that.

The Ritual

This was a rough one y’all. Interesting concept, poor execution. Abigail Cowen puts on a great performance, but that really is the only thing of note about this film. The centerpiece of this story, being the relationship between the two lead priests played by Dan Steven’s and Al Pacino, fails to be of any meaningful merit, as both actors had virtually no chemistry together. I enjoyed the editing of the film, which worked for the guérilla style shooting, but that couldn’t save this film from being a dull snore fest.

The Ritual

I wonder what do they think (the cast) about the movie: all of them feel Honor to be in a movie with Al Pacino, in the most shit movie ever.

The Ritual

So...I never experienced having the entire cinema to myself, but I got to do so today. It was both exciting and terrifying at the same time. Anyway, this film was...decent, to say the least. Not that bad, but not that good either. There was a jump factor, but not too much of it (for me, at least). It also more like watching a documentary than watching a film, and the camera shakiness just makes me feel a bit dizzy when watching it on the big screen. Dan and Al partnering up in this film was a blessing to me, honestly, and their performances were quite lovely to watch in this. Abigail's performance as Emma was absolutely amazing, and she did so well! (Sidenote: I feel sorry for the sisters in the film. They went through this shit and are traumatized as heck most likely after the ordeal.) Overall, it wasn't horrific enough (I wish it was) but it was lovely watching it on a Sunday afternoon. Might rewatch it again on Halloween (when I have a digital copy of it).
