Steve

Steve has great performances from both young and not young actors, bold visual choices that surprise, though don't add much but flair, and an overall nuanced exploration of complex themes. But I won't remember it for them. What I will remember it for, is the short scene in which a blond yuppie prick (the character probably has a name, but I don't want to give him the respect it would take to spend three second to check it out, and yes, I know, explaining this took much longer than actually checking, but it's a matter of stance, not laziness) comes to the school and tell the teachers that the institution will close in six months. Typical rich man bullshit. But what is truly striking, is that he does not deliver the news himself. No, the asshole wants to be liked and cool, and relatable, and understanding, as most businessmen and politicians want to pose as. So, he makes his secretary do it for him, making a person he controls destroy the lives of other people he controls. That's how capitalism works, that is how governments work, and that is how these forms of "social aid" programs by the rich work - they give some hope, so they can get a bunch of tax cuts and diversify their portfolios, and when these portfolios don't need any more diversification, they obliterate people.

Visually beautiful, good topic even tho it's heavy, good perfomance from the actors, breath-taking, it's kinda triggering me and make me anxious the whole time, but still this movie is confusing me. I think Steve really love these problematic kids. This movie is like what inside my head right now, chaos and messed up everytime.

the most stressful situation I could ever imagine, cramming it within a day and i just thought the children weren't delve enough but maybe it's for the best, it's a short yet stressful film to watch

“And if you could describe yourself in three words?” “Depressed, angry, and bored” cillian murphy and little simz in a movie together?? last thing i expected. Overall though, i love the pacing and sequencing, i love the use of handheld shots too, the tarone and jamie fight sequence is great. My only thing is that i don’t really think this is about Steve, or at least it shouldn’t be. I feel like they tried to make him the main character in a story where he’s not. Overall tho i liked it and everyone had great performances, especially all the younger boys.

❝You know what I'm saying, I want all these lads, and my own kids, my little girls, you know, it's the same, I want them to know that there's something else. That there's, like, infinite things, music you can't even imagine in other places, and the weather, and love, and maybe nothing but ruin, but who knows? Who knows? The disaster changes shape, and it becomes tomorrow's joy or whatever. And there's-- there's someone you haven't met, and it's... it's, you know... you know what I'm saying.❞ 𐄁─────⋆⁺‧₊☽ ◯ ☾₊‧⁺⋆─────𐄁 Steve is absolutely brutal; although I've only watched it once so far I can tell it's the kind of film that'll linger in my mind for quite some time. It's very difficult to sit through at times, but delivers such raw emotions and really emphasises the importance of alternative education systems, helping to rehabilitate future members of society. Considering the nature of the story, I love the dual approach to the camerawork: there's a very agitated, vérité manner used for the footage captured by the documentary crew, while the scenes taking place outside of the crew's knowledge have a more intimate and fluid style, which allows the camera to 'disappear' and highlight quieter, tense moments. With Cillian Murphy at the helm, the cast do a fantastic job at portraying their respective characters with so much realism. And though you know the students are at the school for not-so-nice reasons, it's hard not to root for them and the adults who believe in their potential. So far, both collaborations of Cillian and Tim Mielants have been excellent; I highly recommend giving Steve a watch.

incredibly beautiful film and no, that’s not just cos cillian is in it. “There’s so much, and it’s a lot, but hold tight, because you won’t always feel like this.”
