She Rides Shotgun
She Rides Shotgun
77/100 2025 ranked - https://boxd.it/Fn1G4 Dancing while fucking crying??? Even harder, acting it? What are kids these days on man! This was such a good performance from Ana Sophia Heger, captivating from start to finish not to mention those overly bright blue eyes as well. Father daughter films get made and often they are decent but they rely too much on forcing emotional scenarios, here the story does the talking. Train and Ana were really good together, I always like Taron, he’s very versatile and no different here. You can feel when he’s down, how much he cares and how he’s trying to do right by her and you can feel how much Ana loves him and cares for him, she’s ready to go anywhere with him. Despite the situations in the movie, she feels safe with him. I thought Detective Park came in clutch until they went ahead and fucked the ending. Going by semantics, there was literally no reason to kill Taron. He stabbed Houser on the back and he’s clearly incapacitated, the police are quite close and he could’ve just moved back and out of the firing line then all those guns pointed at Houser could’ve taken him out but of course they don’t wanna give us happy endings. I hate that films put themselves in these uncomfortable situations where we have to question logic, it happens far too often and in action flicks, I do understand but in thrillers such as these, I’d ask for more thinking and planning, always. Also, I thought the film was written well for most part until again the end especially with Houser. John Carroll Lynch is a brilliant actor and he looked menacing but his dialogue boy I was laughing, no one cares about your dog analogies man. They overdid it there. A solid film that gives you time to care for your protagonists and delivers on most fronts. I have to mention the score specifically which I thought was really really good, Blanck Mass know their shit. And I love that grainy look, more films need to have these although maybe not overdo it like “Stone Cold Fox.”
She Rides Shotgun
A great bit of pulp filmmaking. A dime store revenge novel brought to life with two incredibly effective lead performances. I’m really annoyed I wasn’t able to get to the theater for the week it was playing here. I really want to revisit this. 2025 Ranked (https://boxd.it/D1fDm)
