V/H/S/Beyond

V/H/S/Beyond

Maybe the worst of the Shudder-era series, but still better than all of VHS1 and most of VHS2, and still miles and miles ahead of VHS Viral The best segment is Stork, which I can best describe as "an Evil Dead FPS until the insane ending" Most ambitious is probably Stowaway, with Alanah Pearce (who rules in general; happy to finally see her in a film!) as a would-be documentarian getting way too close to a new discovery. Some great body horror here that'll be overshadowed both by found-footage shaky-cam obscuring a lot of it and...you know....coming out so soon after The Substance I also really liked Live and Let Dive, where skydivers are forced to an early landing by an errant UFO. If not for the ending, I'd have loved it I didn't much like Dream Girl, the segment with Bollywood paparazzi getting up close with the new star The worst segment in one of these in years is easily Fur Babies, where an annoying taxidermist fucks up animal rights activists And the wraparound is done in traditional documentary style until the ending's found footage which completely ruins the quality of that segment in the process Could have gone 4 on this, and I get it, but the wraparound's ending being the film's ending fell flat for me. Ending on Stowaway would have been solid and earned

V/H/S/Beyond

You know maybe I'm the one who needs to readjust some expectations where found footage is concerned, or at least found footage as filtered through V/H/S. Don't know if I'd outright call myself a fan with my explorations so far, but the genre as a whole still activates some neurons up top. I gravitate more towards the scenarios halfway justifying their operation in-universe; a "satisfactory" context for tape/feed retrieval, who's editing it for you, and why. E.g. Blair Witch, Gonjiam, Incantation. And thing is I remember the criticisms at that first one's release like "what's scary about a snotty close-up of a face you can't even see anything" kind of statements... which is the precise something that makes it all work for me so well. But the other part of me knows that, say, an uninterrupted multi-hour CCTV viewpoint, while truly *Found* in one sense, isn't exactly going to cut it for a night at the movies. So V/H/S/Beyond breezes past all that and is more interested in the format as thrill ride or suggestion, where the pact with the audience is one of willing imagination and whatever cassette-esque construct is necessary to get your POV on the ground and shoved up close to the gory business at hand. It's taken me a while but I think I'm finding a way to chill out with the format, letting the somehow perfectly framed shots fall where they may :D Fangoria has a good feature on these, lots of fun effects going on. "Stowaway" is the one sticking with me the longest-- the suffering feels downright literary in that last half.

V/H/S/Beyond

First time watching V/H/S series and it turned out to be very good and scary. I like all the stories from the beginning but I don't like the ending story a bit because it's confusing, so the concept of this movie is about UFO, Alien and Mutant right? The movie segments that I like the most are Dream Girl, Live and Let Dive, and Fur Babies. please recommend one really good V/H/S movie besides this, I'm obsessed I think.

V/H/S/Beyond

~Abduction/Adduction -started interesting, lost its way, ended interesting. i was interested in the farmington house and the immigrant family and then they went on about unrelated alien topics and using real youtubers (corridor crew) took me out of the movie. ~Stork - one of the best segments of the whole franchise ~Dream Girl -it was decent ~Live and Let Dive - pretty good ~Fur Babies - i didnt care for it, not because its weird and disturbing but because of the characters ~Stowaway - pretty good overall, there was good body horror, special fx, etc. segment rankings: Stork Live and Let Dive Stowaway Dream Girl Abduction/Adduction Fur Babies

V/H/S/Beyond

Night 4 of 31 Nights of Halloween Another year, another V/H/S film, and I genuinely couldn’t be any more excited. Over the past few years, this series has really upped their game, offering up some of the most cohesive films to date. With this in mind, I was so excited to watch Beyond when it was announced, and I can happily say that it was worth the wait! While it may not be the most cohesive film, with some shorts feeling a bit out of place within this particular film, it was still such a fun time. Kate Siegel’s short, as many others have noted, is the one to watch out for, but my favorite concept was the segment “Live and Let Dive”, which I think had the potential to be the best segment of this franchise. It didn’t quite live up to that, but it still was a personal favorite of mine. I’m so very excited to see what comes next for this series and can’t wait to give this batch another go in the future.
