Near Dark
This is how I would describe a perfectly average movie. It’s not bad, but it’s not good. It’s bang slap in the middle. The acting is... okay. The pacing is... okay. The story is... okay. Nothing stands out as great, and nothing is terrible. It’s not particularly fun, or boring. It’s literally an okay film.

“You're in my hands. You'll be fine” One of the greatest vampire films you'll ever see, and definitely in contention for #1 on that list. Beyond thrilled to see this finally on a streaming service, here's hoping for a home media rerelease (that doesn't go out of print) soon too

Hope you don't mind none.❞ ∘₊──── • ♧ • ✧ • ♧ • ────₊∘ Near Dark had a lot of potential, being a mix between the vampire subgenre and Westerns, and while it had its moments it didn't work that well. The main problem was the romance between the leads; I didn't understand why they would fall in love, having known each other for a matter of days, and the actors didn't have any chemistry whatsoever. The plot also didn't allow for many scenes with only them to develop their relationship, so that really took away from the film. I did really like Bill Paxton and Lance Henriksen's performances, though, as they added a bit of comedy as well as killer lines, and the camerawork was pretty good too. All in all, however, I'm not the biggest fan of Near Dark, but I can see why it was so popular.

With some better music and a more riveting first 40 minutes, this would probably be a top-tier horror film.

Man, I love this movie. Can we please get a 4K soon? That said, there’s definitely a real charm to watching this on VHS.

Absolutely fantastic. Beautiful and disturbing. One of my all time favorite vampire films. Great moody direction by Bigelow, and one of my favorite Paxton performances.

I think the highs of this movie absolutely soar. Parts of it are so effortlessly fun, but the lows can be very slow. Overall though I enjoyed the movie well enough. But I’m also not the biggest 80’s horror fan either.
