Cronos

"An old man and his granddaughter were at his shop one day, when..." is how this all feels at any one point, a proper little tale where the extraordinary shimmers and whirs against the ordinary, threatening eruption and points-of-no-return. A lovely and intimate twist on any vampiric expectation I had.

Cronos

The beginning of a unique filmmaker (and his love for characters with short haircut, blood/gore, monsters mixed with drama, mystery and -kind of- sweetness).

Cronos

❝Among the victims was a man of strange skin, the color of marble in moonlight. His chest mortally pierced, his last words... 'Suo tempore'.❞ 𐄁──── 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚.────𐄁 Cronos is a very interesting take on the vampire subgenre. And for a debut feature film, Guillermo del Toro did a fantastic job with both the screenplay and direction. The plot was intriguing, though I wish the audience could learn more about the alchemist's process of creating the Cronos device, as well as more about the instructions of use. The first two acts were excellent, but the final twenty minutes or so really lost steam, and the ending, while nice for the characters, felt a bit rushed and anticlimactic. I really liked the camerawork, though, such as the use of Dutch angles to enhance the disorientation Jesús goes through both physically and mentally during his transformation, and the music was beautifully tense in just the right places. Everyone in the cast was fantastic, but Ron Perlman really stole the show for me, closely followed by Federico Luppi. On the whole, a pretty good vampire horror that I'd recommend of you're looking for something different.

Cronos

El debut de guillermo del toro es imperdible, cronos puede no estar a la altura de muchas de sus celebres obras pero si amas su sello cronos es una de esas necesarias pelicula por explorar, es inteligente y terrorífica al nivel clásico del género.

Cronos

"Who said insects aren't God's favorite creatures? Christ walked on water just like a mosquito" Really beautiful interpretation of a vampire tale, with the Cronos Device acting similarly to a taboo drug, a vice Jesús uses in an attempt to avoid his own mortality. There is so much humanity the way each character faces their changing bodies, attempts to change them themselves, or keep them preserved at all cost. The way his body changes, de-ages, rots, and sheds throughout the film is done so well and to great effect. I cried at the end, there is something so beautiful about his acceptance of the end, how he rejects the supernatural urge to kill and instead places his granddaughter's life above his own.
