The Tragedy of Man
- i need a week to just...process. - but it is the most titanic animated film i've ever seen. - having previously seen jankovics' johnny corncob (1973) and son of the white mare (1981), i already knew this piece would be a masterwork in animation and vibrancy--especially with how long he worked on this piece. but, i wasn't nearly prepared for the great density of it. - my initial viewing was with friends, and i'm really glad i watched it with this group, because i wouldn't have been able to point out details they did, be it from a historical, artistic, or even a natural standpoint. watching it was almost like a group project full of discovery and being in awe. - it was overwhelming, and challenging to experience this, but in a great way. there were instances where i would lose focus of the dialogue, but because of the visuals, i would be able to hop back on track. but even then, i wasn't able to fully take the work in like i wanted to. - i don't think any other film can touch this one. - i won't be able to see another animated film for a while, without mentally referring to this. - i often found myself in complete silence and focus for the majority of the film, and it really took me in. - just, damn.
