Exorcist II: The Heretic
It’s maybe not as terrible as it’s reputation, but it’s definitely not good.
Exorcist II: The Heretic
#37 of 31 Days of Madness: October 2017 (https://boxd.it/1fIvM) It starts promising, but of course, Exorcist II: The Heretic evaporates into freckled failure, introducing frantic lore and locust pocus—all the while getting really weird with itself. It's obvious the film is trying to do something different, despite the terrible execution and lack of excitement—it almost feels like the cast and crew knew it would be, too. Exorcist II aims to be an extraordinary spectacle, but instead it serves as one befuddling exercise in horror sequel making, and naturally, it isn't the most nurturing thing to get hype for, especially after the magic of its predecessor. Even with its two hour run-time, this thing feels too damn long, and a lot of it is filler—or at least a dull intrusion of lore and other garbage. Linda Blair is of course great to watch, a year before the much better Summer of Fear TV movie—perhaps she's the one thing good about this film—her charm is undeniable, even though it isn't the greatest. Everything else is so offbeat and both too much and too little that it's honestly too hard to be invested in its unexciting story. No, this isn't a disaster, it's just very much a huge freaking disappointment. 2.2/5
Exorcist II: The Heretic
“God has fallen silent.” I don’t think I’ve ever watched a more pointless, disjointed, and confused film in my life. 2hrs of me muttering: what the fuck? to myself over and over. Everyone involved in this film should receive capital punishment—from the writer to the director to the boom mic operator. Prison.
