As much as I did enjoy this I did feel it dragged at times. Sure, there are some fantastic moments, like the diner scene, but I’d be lying if I said I loved this. Great acting all around though.

Really liked it! Rain-slicked stylizations and general in-your-face Caan-fest. The heisting was great. Ride-along and score, all swell, swell. The emotional backing ... yes? That amazing diner scene almost single-handedly carried it off. But what am I tut-tutting about, Robert Plasky and CrimeCo. went a good way towards wrapping up the rest of it, capitalism oozing over everything and into the carpet. Ok, so the 'heat' aspect went nowhere, but so did Frank's American dream, hanging together with all the strength of a paste-n-paper collage. Mileage lost. No, come morning after the long night it's the all-encompassing forces of reclamation and self-possession, that seems to be the way of Mann.

Rest in Peace, James Caan. You will be remembered. You rocked it in this.

My first impression of Michael Mann’s work is a great one! Loving the vibes here, the neon lights reflecting off the hood of the car at night = *chef’s kiss🤌🏻*. The cool, blue tone of the visuals really brings out that neo-noir swagger, and this film is drenched in it. And that score? Makes me want to drive around the city at night for hours. Intrusive thought: maybe this is Walter Hobbes’s backstory, and how he ended up on the naughty list?? He changed his identity and moved to New York to work a “normal” job and lay low? Idk, food for thought…R.I.P James Caan.

Frank é um dos melhores personagens de Michael Mann, um ladrão de bancos profissional que recusa a se submeter a exploração de um mafioso qualquer. Às vezes o cara só ainda está no mundo do crime por ter rabo preso com alguém.
Thief
Michael Mann directs the FUCK out of this movie, fucks REAL hard. Also the Tangerine Dream soundtrack is banging
Thief
Only Mann knows how to shoot a movie at night. He don't miss
Thief
Drawn out heist sequence benefits this film making it realistic but at the same time stylized in the way it shot and how its colour graded a solid heist that still holds up.

92/100 Check out my top 100 films in the Bartman 100 - https://boxd.it/p7t2g He made it out!!! Holy fucking shit Michael Mann you’re a genius. This man has casually made some of my favourite films ever. Add this to that list. This man had to have been a synthwave-loving professional thief in his previous life because what the hell! The detailing in his movies and the score ah - work of art. Michael Mann’s movies will never have an average score, that is a given. I loved James Caan in this. He was his usual hotheaded self but smart - deadly combination that. And yes an absolutely incredible-looking film. Sometimes I really feel sad that we never had the cameras from our time in that 80s era because they would’ve made some of the greatest looking shots by some considerable distance. Even still, this is a beautiful looking film. The city always shines in a Michael Mann film.
