The Amityville Horror

The Amityville Horror

I honestly can't say why I gave this film such a high rating on my first watch. Upon this second watch, I realized that this story could have been handled very differently, and would have made the film truly terrifying. But rather than focus on the degradation of the relationship between the family, they decided to put the focus on literal scares, showing that jump scares and sex were what made a horror film good. It's a shame, since this story, even if not true, has some elements that are terrifying. Since I watched the remake again, I should probably go ahead and check out the original again, since I have much better memories of it than I had with this film.

The Amityville Horror

Instead of the Super Bowl, I watch horror movies! As it didn't have much atmosphere or jump scares, it was pretty decent. Was confusing at time with the plot and didn't spend enough time on things. I actually thought it was better than the original. I didn't fall asleep watching it, so that made the difference between movies. I was disappointed that they didn't do the whole "get out" scene more... It was more like a whisper!!

The Amityville Horror

This was actually a pretty decent film! I didn't think it would be good, but it was actually pretty good! I had a problem with the pacing. I was watching it and watching it and I checked, and I was only 38 minutes into the film. For over 3/4 of this movie, I was grueling watching it. I just kept on pushing and pushing. Finally near the end, it started to get interesting. It's a slow burner! I usually really enjoy them, but this one wasn't enjoyed as much. Glad to finally have watched this though! ***just noting that I am so glad I did not live in the 70's, because those clothes were just atrocious

The Amityville Horror

#5 of 31 Days of Madness: October 2018 (https://boxd.it/25v8a) A house built on horror and a dark history. A story chilling on paper but rather dull on screen. This is one of those horror franchises I haven't yet touched until now, and I can't say I'm excited to see the rest. The Amityville Horror really has the perfect title, which is probably the highest praise I'll give to the film — if it had lived up to the name then we would have a perfect movie. Event after event, the house is the center of attention, scaring its owners — both played pretty well by James Brolin and Margot Kidder — and then sluggishly continues to indulge in a tangible enough mystery or reason for it all. With some trimming it could have been a pretty decent film, but the amount of times I let out a sigh when it cut to the local priests talking about the horror was too much. Towards the second half there are some good scenes — Brolin looking mad and bringing down the wall in the basement was a deranged highlight. In the end, The Amityville Horror wishes it was The Exorcist, which it is an unholy distance from being. 2.4/5

The Amityville Horror

kinda funny how much is similar to the shining, but even without those parts it’s still pretty good
